Nintendo has set the release date for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, and even Big N might be a little bit trepidatious of GTA 6, because the tactical RPG will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on 17th September 2026.
Elsewhere in the trailer, Nintendo revealed the four characters that you can choose between – Cai a young boy determined to save his father, Dietrich the swordsman who just wants a good fight, Theodora the Queen of Saramis who wants to fulfil her homeland’s dream, and Leda the musician out for revenge.
Here’s a wee bit of blurb from the trailer:
In the capital of the Dagdan Empire, powerful fighters gather to participate in the Heroic Games, where the winner is granted one wish.
Hone your techniques at the training grounds, recruit new allies, or travel beyond Dagsion’s walls to gain experience. How you spend your free time is up to you.
It’s an interesting framing device for the story, pitching it as more of a combat tournament than a war between realms, as has so often been the case in the Fire Emblem series. Heck, even Fire Emblem Three Houses, which was set in a school at its heart, still saw rival nations fighting one another. Of course, this is just the starting pitch, and we’ll have to see just how big and bold the game goes.
Fire Emblem has become one of the mainstay franchises for Nintendo after it surged in popularity on the Nintendo 3DS. There were a couple of great entries on Switch, with Fire Emblem Engage the most recent in 2023. Of that game, Dom said, “Fire Emblem Engage balances the series’ past and its future, offering a renewed focus on the tactical gameplay, an endearing cast of old and new faces, and the best visuals the franchise has ever seen.”
