We’ve been contacted by a TSA reader regarding some issues with PS3 firmware 3.70, and by searching the old Interweb it seems that he is by no means alone with his problem.
“Basically, since the release of Firmware 3.70 earlier last week which added new features for PlayStation Plus members, the ‘Auto Updates’ feature isn’t working. The console no longer updates game patches, finishes downloads you have pending, and more importantly, does not automatically upload save game files when you choose a game to have this enabled.
This was a new feature, but many of us can’t get it to work, and actually can’t get the entire ‘Automatic Updates’ feature to work anymore.”
This doesn’t seem to be happening to everyone, as some are reporting that their auto updates are working perfectly. Is anyone here having any problems or, more importantly, has anyone found a solution? As of yet calls to Sony customer support have had no success.

yup this has been happening to me too. I had it set to do the Motorstorm Patches on the Sunday but i ended up having to do them manually.

Nearly every day since the update I’ve had an on-screen message stating various things that have been done from patch downloads, to game save uploads and trophy synchronisation.

That actually sounds pretty annoying! Does it still give you that message if you don’t play anything for a couple of days i wonder? :/

You only need to hit X or O (can’t remember) and you go straight to the XMB. I quite like it. Reminds me that my £40 a year isn’t just free games :D

Dammit mine must not be working then as since the update I have had no messages to say patches have been applied, trophies updated or saves synced.
I also still do not have my On demand TV services anymore other than BBC (not a big loss to be honest).
Anyone know how to get this lot back and to get the sync working?

Can people having problems please try changing their date/time settings to ‘Update Via Internet’ instead of ‘Manual’, then choose the time slot that applies to the time now, and then turn off the console. If it works, the console should re-boot and auto update.
However, no confirmation yet that this works every time. I did a similar thing last week by manually syncing trophies. This then worked and my system auto updated, but nothing since then and that was 5 days ago.
Have just tried the date/time settings change, so can only wait a few days to see if that has resolved the problem.

Same here, no updates all week but I’ve just tried the date/time fix and so far so good but will need to keep an eye on it next few days.

Incidentally, is it ok to cancel out of the auto-update now that it’s working? – I’d really like to use my PS3 today but I have a feeling my current updates will take a while.. :s

All done now, took about 40 mins. Also folks remember to set the time slot for auto-updates back to a more suitable time once you’ve fixed the error using the method above.

I’m pretty certain for the past say three evenings I’ve gone on, it has come up and said save games uploaded and trophy sync.

The new thing should do it every 24 hours. Auto Download was 48.

I’ sure I responded to this in the forums too? the upload of save files does not work for me. I am also having problems with the auto downloads, they are not appearing in my download management when i quit auto-download, usually they appear there and i can play a single player game offline while they download. Really frustrating, hope it get’s sorted out. I also thought trophies synced automatically too or am i mistaken?

Mine is working fine. Every day this/last week, when ive switched on the ps3, ive had a lovely message teeling me what game saves have been uploaded. which games have been updated. downloading files have been finished and installed. All good my end.

Mine appears to be working, it uploaded a save game but it can’t do patch updates as I don’t have enough free space on the console.
