First Import PS1 Titles Roll Onto PSN Store

[drop2]Although everyone’s more interested in which PS2 games Sony will bring to the European PSN Store today, MonkeyPaw Games have let us know that they’re publishing three PS1 games in the brand new ‘import section’.

The first three titles are Arc the Lad (tactical RPG), Cho Aniki (hugely gigglesome sidescrolling shooter) and Arcade Hits: Sonic Wings Special (shoot ’em up).

“Why is it that so many classic Japanese titles haven’t seen distribution outside of Japan?” asks the press release.

“MonkeyPaw’s mission is to share these forgotten gems with gamers around the globe. We’re excited to offer our digital download import and classic titles to the European PlayStation Store.” said John Greiner, president and CEO of MonkeyPaw Games.

“It’s just a taste of what’s to come,” he said.  Presumably referring to Cho Aniki…

  1. Arc the Lad.. that’s a long time ago. I believe I enjoyed it though.

  2. Cho Aniki and Arc the Lad: instant buy :)

  3. I will look into these games to see if they are worthy of being added to my collection. :) I hope we will see Resi 2&3 on the store soon via imports. And Silent Hill.

If they can’t get it onto the EU store, then allow us to get it via importing it. :) Actually thinking about the store. Where the hell is Chrono Trigger? SCEE said that it would be up on the store in a “few weeks” and that was a month ago. O_O

    • Is Chrono Trigger coming, I missed that? Wanted that and Chrono Cross for years, they never got a PS UK release, yet they were always hyped.

Sony’s view of “classics” doesn’t seem close to the games I like unfortunately, so not too hopeful of the PS2 games they’ll bring to the store.

Plus there’s Portal 2 DLC today (free!) and Uncharted 3 Multiplayer, so can’t see my playing any retro games anyway.

    • Why resi 2&3 on imports when we actually had them here on PAL?

      • We did? :O Well if SCEE cba to get them back up at least allow us to import them instead of creating a fake US account. :-/

SCEE did say that Chrono Trigger would be coming to the store but the question is when? As i think they did say at the end of August that it would be up. With the imports, they should be able to get actual classics on up the store. :)

      • If i remember right a blog comment from the store team stated that Resi 2+3 PAL versions were failing Q&A testing, yet the US ones would pass, but they were looking at using the NTSC versions to release here instead

    • I think Chrono Trigger is coming this week, atleast it was supposed to have been released in the US yesterday. Could be wrong of course.

  4. I’m not holding my breath for ps2 classics today (it would be nice though, Ring of Red!)..
Looking over at what the US got under the PS1 imports, I’m really looking forward to seeing some old Mega Man games, and hopefully some of those classic RPGs the US got over us. Not that I would buy them again as I used a US psn account to get hold of them, still, other people need to play them!

  5. Damn, what about Chrono Cross? Wanted this for years! :(

  6. Can we have Chō Aniki: Seinaru Protein Densetsu please? (That’s “Legend of the Holy Protein”)

  7. Erm, was it ever confirmed for PS2 Classics today outside of the States……?

    • Nope, just an assumption that’s been made by the looks of it.

I expect there’ll be much complaining when something that was never confirmed doesn’t indeed happen – it does sadly seem to be how things are these days

  8. i want the old dragon ball z games that i dnt think ever came out in england, that would be cool

    • I want them because of the music….and … omg the openings

  9. I hope this trend picks up, there are literally thousands of games we never ever get to see :(
Fingers crossed for Imabikisou, not Ps1 but definitely a tremendous loss for us to have never had it : )

  10. Bushido Blade II please Sony, my old import doesnt work on PS3 :( and, though it’s not an import, I’d still love to see G Darius on PSN
