Once again we find ourselves gazing upon a familiar sight. FIFA 12 hits six weeks in a row at number one, despite everyone on the planet already having at least two copies.
Resident Evil: Revelations on the 3DS has done much better than I thought it would, coming in at number six, whilst Rayman Origins drops out of the top ten.
1. FIFA 12 (EA)
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Activision)
3. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Bethesda)
4. Just Dance 3 (Ubisoft)
5. Battlefield 3 (EA)
6. Resident Evil: Revelations (Capcom)
7. Zumba Fitness (505 Games)
8. Saints Row: The Third (THQ)
9. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (Ubisoft)
10. Zumba Fitness 2 (505 Games)
11. Rage (Bethesda)

I don’t have two copies of FIFA 12 – In fact, i didn’t even bother getting one copy as if i chose to, i could still play FIFA 09 or 10 (i picked both up for less than a tenner) & it would still be more or less the same game.
I can’t help but feel that if more people thought like this, the familiar sight above would be somewhat less familiar (although it would probably mean that CoD would be top instead, so swings & roundabouts i guess?).
I personally think that FIFA should be on something like a 2 yearly (or maybe even 4 yearly) cycle, with roster updates being brought to you via DLC each season – This way they would have enough time to work on the game, refine the system & get some innovative stuff put into the next one, so that it is actually… Different. Trouble is, they make less money this way, so it is likely never to happen.

Plus, if it was too different, there is a chance that people wouldn’t buy it as well i suppose!

Well I buy the fifa games every 2th year. And there are always alot of new improvments. Especially this year.

Generally every other release is different
FIFA05 was great (at the time) FIFA06 saw barely any changes, FIFA07 was great, 08 was just a gentle evolution, FIFA09 was amazing, 10 was an evolution with barely any changes, 11 was surprisingly remarkably similar though and it was FIFA12 that kicked things on to the next level.
Think FIFA13 will feature Kinect’s voice controls fully integrated in to the main game and on PS3 Move will get a seperate game mode but with FIFA Euro2012 in production in between I don’t hold out much hope for much development time & many changes.

It’d be a big mistake if FIFA stopped being an annual release because with out of date kits and players at the wrong clubs drive FIFA OCD’s like me crazy. I also have it on two platforms ps3 for online play with mates and on pc to see the graphical difference. FIFA is a definite worthy top seller just because for me it’s the best game and the one I spend most time on.

Indeed, which is why i said “I personally think that FIFA should be on something like a 2 yearly (or maybe even 4 yearly) cycle, with roster updates being brought to you via DLC each season”.
Simply put though, it would be a big mistake if FIFA stopped being an annual release because EA wouldn’t make so much money on it.

If they kept the squads and everything up to date either through patches or dlc every two years wouldn’t be too bad. While people keep buying FIFA each year my self include they will keep releasing it annually.
Although if the money FIFA generates creates new IPS like Dead Space, Mirror’s Edge etc then it is definately worth releasing each year.

Agreed, if that were the case, they can shove as many iterations of the beautiful game down people’s throats as they can handle (hell, I might even buy the odd one myself!), as I have actually really enjoyed the new IP’s that have come out of EA.
Sadly, I don’t think that’s how it works though, as I believe that EA Sports stuff is funded by EA Sports & EA ‘whatever’ (where the new IP’s come from – No idea if it’s a specific studio or what!) probably have to supply their own funding themselves. This is purely speculation of course without seeing the inner workings of the beast, but generally this is how businesses tend to work, with each department/office/whatever supporting themselves with their own bugdget & profit margins (unless they get into real difficulty of course, when others tend to chip in).
Unfortunately, I doubt that EA ‘whatever’ actually see a penny of what EA Sports bring in.

Played Sensible Soccer on mates Amiga but never owned it. The last/only footie game I’ve owned was Sony’s effort on PS2 (I think), cannot remember the name.

don’t you mean Resident Evil: Revelaitons?
KeRaSh
Yeah, pretty shoddy journalism! They can’t even spell the game right. :P

I’m avoiding FIFA this year. Just can’t justify spending £30-£40 on a game I prety much own.
cc_star
You already own FIFA12?
kjkg
Ha no, I own 11. And to be fair my statement is pretty much void because I would actually spend that on an “update” so to speak. Plus I’ll no doubt get 12 next week anyway, so ignore my previous comment. Put it down to it being monday and I’m still sleepy.

Woo, go Resi! :) Thought it would chart well given it was completely sold out in Game, Tesco and Gamestation on Saturday in town and they are out of copies on the Gamestation website too.
Such a good game, can’t stop playing it at the moment.
