Resident Evil 6 “Around 30 Hours Long”

We all like to get plenty of playtime for our money, don’t we? Well, according to Resident Evil 6’s Game Director, you’ll get “around 30 hours” out of the upcoming action horror sequel. That’s around three times the length of Resident Evil 5.

Eiichiro Sasaki let slip the details in a talk with NowGamer at Capcom’s Captivate event last week. The player will play through individual story modes for three characters which, although separate, will overlap and eventually lead to the same place.

In terms of length, each character’s story is a little bit less than RE5 but when you combine them together you’re getting something that is much longer. While each character’s story stands alone, all of the characters wind up in the same area of the game, in China, so there is a certain level of overlap. They stand on their own but they do overlap in certain areas. You don’t have to play them all, of course.

Sasaki has admitted a love for The Walking Dead and Dead Space, which sounds like a very good starting point for getting Resident Evil back to its best.

  1. Can’t wait for this :-)

    • Me too, looks and sounds the muts nuts.

  2. yeah but will half of it be locked to the disc if we refuse to pay £30 to unlock it? ;)

This would make it the longest Resi game in the main series. I just hope it won’t be all action and zero horror like a certain other resi game that i completed within the same day that i got it.

    • I hear ya. There will be something that is locked for sure. It looks good though so let’s hope they do a proper job of this one

  3. How likely is it this’ll be next-gen?

    • Not very likely, I wouldn’t think. There’s an outside chance it’ll be one of those awkward up-ports that we get during generation changes though, I guess. Maybe a PS4/NextBox re-release to coincide with their launch?

  4. Whooop :) Was hoping they opted for this approach. How very old-school

  5. There is no way this will not get repetitive.
30 hours of a co-op game? Could be too much.

    • Have you played Borderlands? I easily sank that much time into it, possibly more, with my mate.

      • Borderlands doesn’t seem half as repetitive as eg. Resi 5 does, because of the variety of weapons I think.

  6. Potentially great news. 10 hours is a good length for a campaign, so long as it is kept punchy, interesting and padding free, often times games artificially lengthen the campaign with annoying, repetetive tasks that add nothing to the game (ME2 planet probing and all that bloody looting/inventory management in Skyrim for instance). 3 snappy, concise 10 hour campaigns is very interesting to me indeed. Assuming of course it’s good :)

  7. So it’s only 10 hours if you play through with 1 character? 30 if you play all 3!

  8. 9hrs of gameplay (3 Playthroughs) and 3hrs of cut-scenes……
I’ll put a bet on this

    • Hell that’s still an inverse ratio to MGS4 :D

      • Hey I loved Metal Gear Solid 4. It was an awesome movie ;)

  9. sounds good to me hope that is the full SP.

  10. Rather have 8 hours of Resi 4 level quality than 30 hours of Resi 5 level quality. It’s not the size of the wave but the motion of the ocean. Permit me to reserve judgement.
