Sony’s E3 Conference Trailers

For those of us who watched the Sony press conference it was as much about the games we didn’t see as it was about those Sony did show us.  Of course we can’t show you the trailers for what wasn’t shown so you just get these.

Already leaked earlier in the day, Quantic Dream’s new game was confirmed as Beyond.  Here’s the “what happened after they opened the door” trailer shown during the presser:

While this is the flashback-filled official E3 trailer:

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale got some attention and the official reveal of the Vita version of the game.

Still on the subject of the Vita, we got a look at it’s Assassin’s Creed III adjunct, Liberation:

Its big brother Assassin’s Creed III (no subtitle) had Conner messing about in boats. They don’t feature much in this official trailer though:

Sony revealed Far Cry 3’s 4-player co-op yet there’s not a peep about that in this trailer they’ve posted:

We all expected so new eReader-type software from Sony. We didn’t expect Wonderbook and are all clearly too old to be interested in it.

Even the J.K. Rowling inspired Book of Spells and its error-prone live demo couldn’t sell us on it:

Kratos thrilled with goat sacrifices galore in the God of War: Ascension  game play we saw, yet Sony haven’t seen fit to share that with us. Perhaps that’s because of what happened last time their PR included dead goats a few years back.

We expected to see The Last of Us and were rewarded with some gameplay footage. It is disconcertingly similar to Uncharted though:

As for what we didn’t see, we can only hope that at least some of it appears over the next few days.

We’ll keep you posted if it does.

  1. Beyond and the last of us look AWESOME. Could be a first day purchase for me. Just hope that the missing games are shown too.

    • I was incredibly disappointed at The Last of Us and how similar to Uncharted it looked. In our Skype chat, I called it Uncharted 4: I Am Alive and I can’t think of a better description. From the pieces of info we’d seen previously, I really hoped it would be something new and fresh.

Don’t get me wrong, more Uncharted-like games are sure to be good but not what I wanted or expected from this after the claims they’d made.

Beyond looked very interesting though, and graphically fantastic.

      • Totally agree, but…

I love Uncharted, but I do get bored about 3/4qtrs of the way through each of them & last night I certainly felt the same about The Last Of Us, I called it Uncharted4 too. However I’ve just re-watched it and there is the scope for it to leave Uncharted for dead.

Gameplay looks similar with in-game engine cutscenes masking loading time of ‘shooting gallery area’ after ‘shooting gallery area’ with handily placed cover points signifying your route through the area, to see the next cutscene, rinse & repeat for 12-20hrs, but elements of the gameplay like the non-regenerative health, the different routes through each section, the methods of killing, the fact your weapons are pretty much only what you find, & then you have to make weapons from what you find lying around all seem like lots of little, insignificant changes that actually add up to a whole different experience. Hopefully.

      • I don’t get this at all. It felt really different from the trailer, to me – a different feeling world, less smart-arse, much more gritty and really visceral. And obviously a very different story.

I’d not paid /that/ much attention to it before now but it’s now a must-have for me.

      • The only think it looks like Uncharted was “the camera angle, a handsome guy and the bomb indicator”.

I really did not understand what you’re talking about.

      • Third person cover based shooter, with climbing & stuff, the cinematic feel of cutscenes interspersed with the action?

It’s practically exactly the same… Other than like I say above lots of little, seemingly insignificant changes & tweaks that look like they add up to potentially a whole new experience.

      • “How similar to Uncharted it looked.”
My first & continuing thought. I was expecting something completely fresh, not UC in a new skin. It does look great all the same, but a wasted opportunity to show what else they are capable of.

  2. Shame about the lack of Vita stuff at the conference. Was really hoping to see Warrior’s Lair, Soul Sacrifice and Monster Hunter.

    • I completely forgot about Ruin (I still call it that because it’s a better name), shame to not see anything when I assume it’s quite close to release…

  3. The ship warfare in AC3 looked really impressive, as does the 4 player co-op in Far Cry.
I was pretty underwhelmed with Beyond and The Last Of Us, while AllStars and GOW just don’t look like my kind of games.

  4. Hopefully these videos will be on the store today, especially The Last Of Us and Beyond. I suppose we might not get the AC3 sea battle trailer on there but that was awesome too!
So, when does TGS begin…? :)

  5. Full Sony E3 conference…

  6. TLOU looks fantastic. It may well be likened as an ‘Uncharted 4’ but to me that’s not a criticism.

    • Agreed, there’ll always be an audience for this style of game & i’m one of them. You know if N.Dog has their name on it, you’re going to get a top quality product.
