UK Games Charts: 18/06/12

FIFA is a bit of a chart-climbing machine, isn’t it? The football game is back at number one despite not having sold all that many copies, relatively. This marks 38 weeks in the top five for EA’s biggest sports game.

FIFA’s chart success this week is largely due to less competition, which means that Lollipop Chainsaw’s ridiculous marketing barrage of upskirt shots and sticky cheerleaders might not have been a roaring success. Still, fourth place isn’t bad for a game which doesn’t feature sports or men in combat gear shouting at each other.

The other new release in the top 20 is Vita’s Gravity Rush which makes it to number eleven. Not bad at all for the 29th boxed Vita game released this year.

Here’s the full list:

  1. Well it’s good to see Gravity rush in there, although I’m sure there’s gonna be a few more digital sales via the store which aren’t accounted for here. A great game it is.

  2. Interesting that AssCreed is still selling so well. I wonder if people are catching up the story ready for AC3?

I expect the Euros are having a big impact on FIFA sales.

    • That’s probably because it’s so cheap £15 most places.

  3. Not surprising to see Fifa at the top with the Euro 2012 blasting onto our screens, almost makes me wish that I was able to play football on a console, which I seriously can’t.
Good to see Sniper Elite V2 still up there, mind you it is selling at a very reasonable price!

    • Indeed – after our co-op session I really feel the TSA review score was pretty low, it’s a great game and different to most other games I own.

Slight shocked by Lollipop Chainsaw I have to say. Perhaps it’s a trophy cake-walk.

      • I must admit I wasn’t expecting Lollipop to make it into the top40 given the poor reviews, etc. You are right though, it is a doddle trophy wise, plus I got my copy for 24quid from Zavvi over the weekend. Crazy deal!

      • The advertising helped Lollipop a lot I think with it’s TV commercial etc., it’s such a simple concept that is neglected far too often these days with deserving games and consoles!

      • Blimey that’s cheap for a new release!

Thought that might be the case with trophies. ;) Seems this is becoming more common to help sell below-par games.

      • Below par? pfft.

      • Wasn’t directed at Lollipop Chainsaw necessarily, just poor games. However, from what I’ve read on Lollipop Chainsaw it’s not great :(

      • Does she get the blouse brothers out? That might help sell a few copies!

      • I think its better just to try it than to read negative shit about it, you know rent. Looks decent, should be given a chance.

      • Yeah sure, but I can only go by what I see/read until I play it myself.

  4. Gravity rush well done, I’m one of the early buyers buy the game if you ain’t got it already

    • Agreed – glad it’s doing well as it’s a single-platform game, loving it so far. Some of the challenges are a bit annoying though – should be easier once Kat is fully “upgraded”.

      • I’m finding the gliding annoying no matter how much I tilt the vita left or right she always over does it lol but I think I spent most of my time looking for gems tbh & flipping the world upside down

      • Yeah – the gliding is annoying, especially as the restart loading times are epic, and tilting the Vita up and down also changes the height of your view. I must look like a total plonker when doing those, like I’m having the worst arm spasms ever, desperately trying not to let go of my Vita. Going to do all of those last!

      • Lool that made me laugh, people staring at me. They also need a restart for the side quest/challenges rather than quit to restart again that’s annoying

      • Very true – respecially when you miss the first checkpoint/gate!

      • “respecially”? WTF :/

      • Lol you sounded like scooby doo just then ‘respecially’ I think it’s actually a word cause my phone is not correcting it or marking it in red. Have to look at my dictionary now lol

      • Haha! thats made me laugh. Im debating whether ordering this this morning, its between Gravity Rush and BF3. But im edging towards BF3, and will get this at a later stage, worth the £30 btw?

      • Defo worth the £30 – first decent game on Vita that isn’t available or a copy of something already on PS3 (imo). Depending on whether you’ve got much else to play on Vita at the moment, I’d get it over Battlefield. I found BF3 quite boring to be honest, unless you want it for the multiplayer.

      • Think I will opt for BF3, may be the penultimate game I buy on a PS3 this year, so need to make the most out of a good MP game. It will also be my second PS3 game purchase on the year :P Tough times. Will wait for a price drop on Gravity Rush :)

      • Yeah, to be fair BF3 will certainly last a lot longer!

  5. I bought both Gravirt Rush and Lollipop. Loving Gravity Rush, fab game. Lollipop verdict in the next day or so.

    • Gravity rush is brilliant.. Got the Shopto version which had DLC for free (limited).

Lollipop Chainsaw on the other hand that should have been a PSN release. Cheap and tacky.

  6. Really want gravity rush, just can’t quite afford it atm, I may have to trade in a few games.

  7. Who is still buying Black Ops?!?!?!?!

    • Me! In a belated Jubilee celebration, I’m making a mock Buckingham Palace centre piece out of the boxes to symbolise how gaming has changed since the last Jubilee. I don’t care for the game much. Another 381 copies should see it finished.

  8. 4th place for Lollipop isn’t bad at all, given Shadows of the Damned failed to make the top40 at all.
Really disappointed to see a lack of Heroes of Ruin :( I’ve been glued to that game all weekend and suits the 3DS perfectly.

    • Shadows of the Damned launched at a time when the overal market was something like 30% more profitable and there was direct competition at retail. 4th in this chart, when it’s the only HD console new release, is vastly different to placing in the charts at the time Shadows was released.

  9. Will Skylanders ever drop off this chart???

    • No the Dragons are a high selling point, seems to be a success with the figures.

      • Which means they’ll only every release childish rip offs of the original Spyro games… I wish they’d release a Spyro Origins or at least a HD remake of the originals.

      • Spyro is still “childish” but appeals to all I’ve only played one of the games on the Wii but yeah I think we all know that any attempt will not be better than what Insomniac did.

Skylanders seems to be a kind of a hit with young gamers or even parents or anyone! but I don’t mind even if it might be a huge departure from the original trilogy, I don’t care what they do to Spyro anymore. Life moves on.

  10. A lot of suckers for Game of Thrones then…. Peter should have spammed his review on lamposts or some shit.
