Rumour: Mafia 3 In Development For Next-Gen

According to insider sources, 2K Czech are hard at work on a follow up to Mafia 2, with next-generation consoles the target platforms. Mafia 3 is currently unannounced, but rumours have surfaced today that the game is already in early stages of development.

Given the freshness of the title, the report claims that a showing at any press events around the corner (including gamescom) is out of the question, the game is currently assumed to appear somewhat later during the next cycle of consoles.

2K’s Brno studio is said to be the office at the helm, and although translations of the source are somewhat woolly, it seems that all is not particularly well over there and that the game could have appeared on this current generation before being moved to PS4 and New Xbox recently.

2K Czech have declined to comment on the rumour.

  1. I quite enjoyed the more linear/focused mission structure of Mafia 2 versus GTA IV so i’m looking forward to another installment.

    • Yeah, agreed – It wasn’t half as bad as people made out & i for one realy enjoyed Mafia 2.

The only thing i found a bit disappointing was when you were driving around collecting those wanted posters, you could see that there were areas designed for shootouts, ramps for superjumps & other things that seemed to have just been negelected. Almost like they ran out of time in development & couldn’t add in the side missions etc that they had planned.

  2. I can’t wait for Mafia 3! Mafia 2 is the only game in a long time that I have played solidly from start to finish.

  3. I heard the game was really short and having played both GTA and The Godfather games I thought oh another one? Have seen it at zavvi with all the dlc for £12.95 but I always end up finding something else to buy.

    • Better than Godfather 2 (pretty much in every way tbh), but not as much to do as GTA. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing is down to personal perception i suppose.

      Good game though.

      • Godfather 2 was really meh the first one was all right though.

I saw someone on my friends list playing it when it first came out and they said it was really short, not many side missions etc – maybe all the dlc rectifies that though.

will have to check it out then

      • It isn’t exceptionally long, no, but i would just say that it didn’t outstay its welcome.

I don’t believe that there are any side missions aside from collecting playboy mags & wanted posters (although my memory is a little hazy on the subject), but i felt that the story was certainly long enough to justify its existence.

If you can find it as cheap as £13 with all the DLC, i would say go for it.
