Knack, The Character In The PS4’s First Announced Game, Can Grow 30 Feet Tall

Knack, the first PlayStation 4 game to ever be shown, is an interesting project, not least because of the main behind the game – Sony’s own Mark Cerny – is the one largely responsible for shaping the new console’s hardware specs.

The first details on the game have emerged today, as website Gaming Everything has picked up info from this month’s Game Informer magazine.

In terms of plot, it seems that Knack was created by a scientist, and tells the story that humans and goblins have lived together in harmony for years. Goblins, for some reason, have obtained military vehicles and Knack (and his team) have been tasked with finding out how they got them.

Trying to pull one thing from the info for the headline was tough – there’s little meat here – but in terms of the actual gameplay hopefully you’ll all already be aware that Knack is built from little crystals which can be added together to change his size, appearance and abilities.

Up to 5,000 of these crystals can added together, and Knack can – perhaps excitingly – grow up to 30 feet tall. Additional moves come from ‘sunstones’ and one such move is a ‘shockwave’ melee attack. The game is a mix of platforming and fighting.

Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida said that Knack was the result of Sony trying to move away from the identikit titles that have slowly taken over this generation. “We hate to see all the PS4 games being FPS or action-adventure or very photorealistic,” he said back in February.

  1. Hope it doesn’t fall short in anyway of expectations, looks promising… and the more platformers the better. There’s barely been much 3D ones this gen.

  2. Knack … sounds like a christmas candy to me in my native language.

  3. I hope this game its ok for kids to play. The kids are going to be quite upset when I’ll but playing ps4 only when their in bed. I want them to play and some co-op fun would be great.I hope they bring ratchet and clank game out early in the lifecycle too.

  4. Looking forward to this :-)

  5. Cant wait for this game, Knack could be a great addition to the list of Sony mascots if the game lives up to expectations.

  6. I think this game could be really cool, I certainly appreciate Sonys mixed launch lineup.

  7. I personally think it looks good.

  8. Hopefully the game proves to be a lot of fun but the demonstration at Sony’s conference made it seem incredibly boring (Wonderbook@E3 all over again).
