New The Last Of Us Maps Detailed

I haven’t played much of the multiplayer portion of The Last Of Us since it released, pushing it aside and focusing on getting through the plethora of other games I’ve bought since, but if you’re a fan then you’ll be glad to see the new maps coming to the multiplayer component of the game.

They launch this week – tomorrow in the US – and come as part of the season pass which can be bought for £15.99 or $9.99, which should translate to around £7 for the map pack alone.

IGN have new details on the maps, as well as plenty of new screenshots, some of which we’ve put in the gallery below. Bookstore, firstly, is described as a “contained” map and has been modified from the one in single player, with plenty of cover and some small, outside areas. It seems to be all about the fact that combat spans two floors, with Naughty Dogs’ Robert Ryan describing it as “a lot of volume in a small space”.

Hometown is taken from within the game’s prologue, where Joel and his daughter are escaping their neighbourhood, but offers a fresh perspective, as it’s based upon what it would look like in modern (in terms of the game) times, after years of decay and destruction, offering a night map that Ryan says builds upon the problems they had with Downtown.

In contrast, Bus Depot seems like a much brighter and vibrant map, set in a location towards the end of the game. IGN describe the horizontal gameplay alongside the vertical firefights, as well as the smaller indoor areas, which revel in the darkness. Aside from that, it seems to be very focused on nature, with Ryan of Naughty Dog saying that the “verticality works very well on this map”.

Finally, Suburbs is around the sniping section of the game – you’ll know which part I mean if you’ve played it – and seems to reflect the serene suburbs very well, offering some very tactical gameplay. It all seems to be about circling round the outside and through the houses, according to IGN.

So, there we have it. Will you be buying the first map pack, or do you perhaps already own the season pass? Don’t forget that you’ll get more multiplayer content next year, as well as a new bit of single player DLC focusing on a new character towards the end of this year for £15.99. Unfortunately, there’s no new trophies with this DLC, which is strange.

Our recent WeView feature rounded up your thoughts on The Last Of Us, with you enjoying the game and describing the multiplayer as a well-balanced, enjoyable affair that managed to keep it all about the survival with the lack of ammo and tactical gameplay.

  1. These look good but since there aren’t that many maps already, and these are locations in the single-player, this very much feels like “held back” content that should have been included from the off, especially for £16!!

Anyway, I have the season pass so these will feel like they’re free as I paid for it ages ago! That said, since there aren’t any trophies I probably won’t play it yet….I’ll wait until the trophies come out (even if it’s with the second set of multiplayer DLC) – that way I’ll have even more new maps to play if there are any grindy trophies….plus the new game mode they added but I haven’t tried yet!

    • I believe ND said they couldn’t promise the DLC and the respective trophies would be released at the same time, so they could come in a patch later on, which I think happened with Uncharted 3.
