We believed that Driveclub might be coming towards the end of next month. There really hasn’t been enough marketing buzz around the game yet, but February 28th looked like a solid date after the title was reportedly releasing in Japan on February 22nd, to meet the launch of the console.
This is no longer the case, with SCEJA announcing that the title had been changed from this date to “pending” status, with a new release date to be announced at a later date.
Driveclub was initially penned as a PS4 launch title, before facing a delay into early 2014 just weeks before the launch of the console. It clearly wasn’t ready yet, and Evolution are still working away hard to deliver an optimal driving experience.
This also may cause concern for inFamous: Second Son, which we really haven’t heard enough about considering that it’s releasing in March.
Sony are still planning to offer a “free” edition of Driveclub for PlayStation Plus subscribers when it eventually releases, which cuts down tracks and cars but includes everything else.

Driveclub becoming the new Gran Turismo in more ways than one.

That’s a shame but not entirely unexpected. On a brighter note it sounds like the game should look very impressive when completed. From Sony’s Be Moved site..
“Every location is precise down to the angle of light. Flora is detailed to the species. The cars are made of a staggering 250,000 polygons. So the feeling of driving is as real as the world created.”

I was expecting it wouldn’t make the Japanese PS4 launch as ShopTo had put the release date back a month last week.

I suppose it hadn’t actually been nailed on for February officially. I can’t see it releasing in March because of Infamous. Maybe an April launch now?
Talking of Infamous, I’m not worried about that being put back, its been in a playable state for a while, and its was given a firm release date months ago.

As long as Driveclub is given space and highlighted whenever it launches rather than having no promotion like Sony does for some of their games, and its the best it can be, all is well. One of the things I think they were trying to do was 60 fps and I sincerely hope for split-screen multiplayer.
As for infamous, that looks as ready as its going to be, and Sony will want to keep the core gamer’s support so it is essential to release in this quarter.

I’m happy to wait a bit longer, gives me time to finish up GT6 but the wait will be worth it :)

Feel sorry for it. Delays usually means higher expectations as discussed above. The delays could actually be due to bugs and not to ‘perfect it’ or ‘improve the visuals’ so much. Could be the higher expectation has now caused the delays for this reason also. Could suffer same fate as GT5 did.

To be fair a lot of people that played it last year said it looked far from finished.

Yes, I thought they delayed the wrong game at E3 when they announced Infamous would miss launch.

What were they thinking to try to get this out with the PS4 launch last year! :-\ Those crazy management types and their useless promises to the top brass.

Totally agree – I wonder if Forza 5 made them rethink a few things too. I do wonder if this game will be any good even after all those delays, the driving looked really “floaty” in all the videos I’ve seen. Still as I’ve said before as its on PLUS we get to try before buying the full version so nothing to lose.

I do wonder a few things, How did they ever expect it to be a launch title? anyway, I am still hoping it will release soon in Europe. Lets hope the extra development time was put too good use (1080p 60fps)

So no serious proper racing game on ps4 for a while yet. You can’t really count the awful need for speed as being a racing game you would actually want to play
