New The Witness Footage Is Accompanied By Jonathan Blow’s Cross Examination

Some new footage of The Witness has emerged and is accompanied by some details from lead designer Jonathan Blow, and the video shows some of the earlier puzzles as they get gradually get more complicated. Visually the game looks very nice with a great mixture of colour brought to the proeceedings, and very bright world to explore. In fact the gameplay length will be around 20-30 hours or even longer according to Jonathan in this video.

The puzzles themselves all follow a similar pattern on navigating a maze, but as you go forward new ideas are thrown in that make you think about how to solve the maze. A quote from the video is regards to puzzles is “knowledge is the key,” and that there won’t be objects to find to open doors. In some of the puzzles I couldn’t help but be reminded of the game Snake. There doesn’t appear to be much of a narrative but if puzzle games are your bag then this could be something to experience.

The Witness is set to come this year and will apparently have a simultaneous on PS4 and PC.

  1. This looks like a good way to kill a couple of hours. Simple gameplay with challenging puzzles.

  2. “The Witness is set to come next year”

This year. The video is from last November. :)

    • AH! Thanks, fella. Soooo much better on the release front. :-)

  3. Two things:

    1. What is it with our American friends across the pond turning everything into a verb. Argh! Tutorialise/tutorialize. *facepalms*
    2. Damn, it looks lovely. Really like how it’s shaping up. Sad to hear about it being over a year away, though. Possibly Summer next year. Ugh. :-(

    • Disappointed it wasn’t more than 6v6 as even Titanfall got that right. :-P

  4. Looks like a good game to get the brain working and the setting is quite pretty.

  5. WE NEED TO KNOW IF ITS 1080P!!!

    • And 60fps!

    • Come on now, Starman. It’s on the PS4, so it’s 1080p. Sheesh! ;-) Colour, too! :-)

  6. Looking forward to this. Looks like a relaxing experience.
