Sony has released some new videos showing what we can expect from augmented reality technology in the future, with the footage showcased showing fluid movements, and realistic looking shadows that react to light. These were unveiled today at the Nico Nico Chokaigi 3 convention in Japan, with there apparently being more demos on the show floor.
The first video simulates the movement of liquid from one container to another, along with the sound effects of it hitting the surface. There’s even an AR rubber duck floating about to show how realistic the movement is, even if the liquid itself doesn’t look it.
This second video highlights the way the AR shadows react to real world lighting, and also playing a mini game of the floor is lava and burning the T-Rex that was on screen. Then you have Hatsune Miku singing in the spotlight, also helping to demonstrate the way AR will react to the real world in the future. It all looks very impressive, and it will be cool to see how it is implemented in future titles.

The flashlight one is quite impressive, really lends more ‘physicality’ to the augmented objects.

Yeah, very impressed with the shadows!
JR.
Impressive.
There should be more games with dinosaurs.

That’s very clever.

meh, i fail to see the point of this AR stuff – i used it once on the vita and thought it was pointless.
