Dirt Rally is a fascinating attempt by Codemasters to rejuvinate their long-standing rally car game series, as it stepped into Early Access on PC a few months ago. Since then, it has seen a gradual release of updates, from the addition of Pikes Peak to the overhaul of the force feedback systems in the game a couple of weeks ago. Today sees the Tarmac Terrors DLC pack drop, as another free update for owners, including a new location in Baumholder, Germany, a bunch of new cars, events and more options.
The full list of additions is as follows:
- 12 new rally stages based at Baumholder in Germany
- Owners Club Online Events – A second DiRT Daily where you compete in your own car
- A second weekly event where we’ll be experimenting and throwing new challenges at you
- 5 new rally cars featuring new Group B RWD & Kit Car Classes
- Opel Kadett GT/E 16v
- Opel Manta 400
- Lancia 037 Evo 2
- Seat Ibiza Kitcar
- Peugeot 306 Maxi
- New calibration and options screens in “Advanced Wheel Settings” (added in v.0.4.5)
However, while it’s a free update, the price of the game for newcomers is now going to start to creep up over time, going from £24.99/€29.99/$34.99 to £25.99/€32.99/$37.99 today. Alongside a little dig at Destiny’s Red Bull DLC, Codemasters Community Manager Lee Williams explained that “as we continue our journey through Early Access the plan was always to slowly increase the price as we added more content.”

I think they’re waiting to see how it does before committing to a console version, which is a shame… TBH I’m amazed the game is happening at all! All credit to codies for allowing the team the chance to see what kind of market there is for it.

I laughed at the price rise, as its only a pound, which is insignificant next to what other games charge just for a livery or some other rubbish.
Looking forward to trying out the new content. I still haven’t played pikes peak yet, or the FFB enhancements.
