Kotaku is reporting that Ubisoft will not be releasing a mainline Assassin’s Creed game in 2016, giving the developers more time to work on the next outing. Ancient Egypt seems to be the next destination for the game and the codename is apparently Empire. It was apparently Unity’s poor reception and number of errors that caused Ubisoft to reconsider the annual release schedule for Assassin’s Creed, and a two year gap could become the norm. Of course 2016 isn’t without any Assassin’s Creed games as both Chronicles titles, set in India & Russia, will be released in the coming months.
There have been separate murmurings of Watch Dogs 2, and Kotaku sources are suggesting that it will be set in San Francisco. 2016 is the rumoured released year for that. Usually rumours are very hit and miss, but with Kotaku’s track record in revealing correct information for both Fallout 4 and Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate before they were announced gives this report some credence.
UPDATE: This isn’t the first time Assassin’s Creed has been rumoured to be heading to Egypt, four years ago the same rumour appeared in PSM3 magazine. Going further back to almost six years ago some mysterious Egyptian themed artwork appeared on the UbiWorkshop feed.
At the same time the UbiWorkshop, who “cook new ideas” for the company tweeted they were working on two projects, one of which was not game related, that probably turned out to be the Assassin’s Creed movie.
UPDATE 2: Ubisoft have released and official statement, although it’s the usual PR waffle. “We can’t comment on rumor or speculation. We’re always happy when players are excited about our games, past, present and future.”

CUE THE IMPERIAL MARCH MUSIC!
For Ancient Egypt is EVIIIIIIIIIIIIL! EVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIL!
Also, give the franchise a break. At least a 2-3 year break as it has got to be running on fumes at this point and whilst learning from their mistakes is a good thing, they still haven’t learnt that people are getting burnt out by the franchise and just not up for more AC games. I mean, it’s a 9 year old franchise(i think) yet, it could rival Guitar Heros with the amount of games released in that period of time!
As for WD 2, will we get a toy dog instead of the game? Or will they deliever on what they promise? People were pissed at the original when the graphics were revealed and to be honest, it’s generic. They have a lot of things to do with WD before it is a GTA rival and i do hope they go over the top with new features and better hacking! Not turn pipe A,Turn Pipe B or just have it be a thing to press.

At least they are taking a small hiatus from AC, which is something – think if they announced one this year, even the hardcore would probably have to question what was going to be in it. The past few years have seen a couple of AC games released in the same year & for me, that’s just too much. The Guitar Hero thing is actually a pretty fair comparison with regards to that.
However, as for Watch Dogs, I have to say that I recently committed myself to finish the first one & it is a damn fine game overall. It’s not like it looks terrible either, it just doesn’t look quite as polished as the tech demo that people initially saw & people got into a bit of a paddy about that. There really was no need though, it still looks fine & plays well… & isn’t that pretty much all we ask from a game?
Not saying that some improvements couldn’t be made of course, but I don’t think they should ever be looking to rival GTA. It kind of already does that, albeit with a more serious tone. They need to focus on the parts that makes it unique, such as the hacking & the freedom to take missions on as you see fit (in terms of viable approaches at least). Definitely a place for a tech driven open world game in the current market.

Let’s hope that they put the right people in there unlike that film exodus.
I haven’t played AC since black flag, hopefully this one brings me back in as I do love Egyptian history

I would love an Egyptian setting but it’s sadly come way too late for me to really hold much faith for the franchise any more. Even if they give it a 2-3 year break, the formula has been cloned to death (just look at what has become of Far Cry) it would just be doing the same old stuff whilst surrounded by pyramids and sand.

Sounds bangin’
Also, saw Chronicles trilogy disc version available for pre-order somewhere. Amazon perhaps?

Praise Zeus it’s finally happening! Although I guess technically we should be praising Horus.
Im actually a bit disappointed that it isnt coming out next year. I honestly dont think a two year (or any) gap will make a difference. If they dont change it enough, people will complain that its still the same old AC, and if they change it too much, it wont be AC anymore.
As long as it isnt one of those crappy chronicles games, I’ll be happy. Ok I havent played the chronicles games but they look a bit crappy.

I think id have more love if they would stick to a character, Kenway was amazing id have loved to have a few games as him and im really enjoying the fryes.
I actually dont mind it yearly, I enjoy it every year, in fact I look forward to it. But I have given up on COD so it may just go the same way, right now Egypt doesnt excite me, like London did.
