[UPDATE] UK Charts 19/11/16 – Watch Dogs 2 Can’t Beat Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare

A new challenger approaches! However, much like last week’s Dishonored 2 the latest big release, Watch Dogs 2, could not shift Infinite Warfare from first place with Ubisoft’s latest offering only managing second spot.

GAME had WWE 2k17 on promotion, hence it’s sudden rise to the top five, and could the public be getting bored of remasters? The latest, a collection of no less than three Assassin’s Creed games for the price of one, only just scrapes in the top ten.

UPDATE: According to leaked figures on NeoGAF, Watch Dogs 2 has sold just 77K, falling far short of the original game’s 388K week one sales.

UPDATE #2: Ubisoft have issued a statement to Eurogamer.

We’re incredibly happy with critics’ and players’ very positive reception of Watch Dogs 2, which should bolster support for the long-term success of the game. It is true that first-day and first-week sales for a number of big games, including Watch Dogs 2 and titles from our competitors, are comparatively lower than previous versions in previous years.

However, we expect both week-two and week-three sales to be above traditional sales patterns. There is a trend toward games, especially high-quality games, having stronger and longer ‘tails’ as favorable reviews and word of mouth spread. Watch Dogs 2 is already considered a tremendous addition to the open-world action adventure series and we’re confident that millions of players are going to love it.

  1. Disappointing sales figures all round really, though I guess its not too surprising given a lot of people have probably used their gaming budgets recently on the PS Pro and/or PS VR.

    • Or maybe they are cautious this time around after the disappointment the first watch dogs was. It’s a shame cause WD2 is really fun & better than the first one

  2. I’m surprised Watch Dogs 2 sold so poorly considering all the adverts I’ve seen for it, plus the decent reviews. Perhaps WD1 put off so many gamers (myself included) it’s seriously damaged WD2?

    • And I can’t believe Ezio is that high, I saw the comparison videos – how have Ubisoft managed to make the remaster look worse?!

    • I think it’s just the trend of Ubi constantly releasing games that are busted at launch.

      • Yeah, that wouldn’t of helped. Those folk who were going to pick up a copy last week may have been put off, or waiting to see the results of the patch (when it comes).

Only 77k games sold for second place!

      • But that’s the case with so many publishers and developers these days. Yes, Ubisoft are notorious for it and probably the worst (alongside Bethesda) but I don’t think that’s the reason why it’s sold badly – plenty of other games this year have sold well even from developers without good reputations.

  3. For me, it’s a case of too many games that i want to play releasing too close together. WD2 and TF2 will have to wait for now but i will get around to them eventually.

  4. Really enjoying WD2 so far.

Other open world games can sometimes feel restricting but WD2 is one of those games that just feels good to play right from the start. Huge improvement over the first game. It’s also one of if not the best looking open world games I’ve played to date. I’m playing on the Pro so not sure if it’s auto upscaled or whatever because I couldn’t find any settings in the menu. So many little details that really bring the world to life like a scorned wife taking a baseball bat to her cheating husbands car :D

Missions are a bit more exciting this time and the main group of characters are improved over the last game. It all feels a lot lighter and tongue in cheek this time. Hacking into UbiSoft HQ to steal a trailer for an as yet unannounced game was brilliant.

Could not care less about the online not working.

Great to see the Ezio collection in the top 10. Just goes to show that people still love the series despite the usual complaints we hear year after year. Picked this up at the weekend but I wasn’t expecting to get into WD2 as much as I am, so this will have to wait.

  5. As for Watch Dogs 2, the bad publicity it received when the first showing of the first game turned out to be target renders (or something like that), has probably layed some seeds that people won’t forget easily.

Personally I think it looks boring as hell when looking at gameplay videos but each to his/her own.

As for Ezio Collection it includes the (to me) true Assassin’s Creed but I already own on PS3, so no need.
