Valve Hit A Record 40,000 Steam Accounts With The Ban Hammer

Right as the Steam Summer Sale concluded, Valve have slapped a huge 40,000 Steam accounts with bans, which is the most they’ve ever banned in a single go. It eclipses the previous record of 15,227 from October 2016.

The Steam Database shows a big spike in bans based off Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC), which had detected a huge number of accounts at this time. The reason for it seems to be that cheaters had been buying games on the cheap on new accounts, with Valve cannily waiting until the end of the sale to ensure that they couldn’t repeat the cycle.

According to VAC-ban, this has lead to over $9,500 in cosmetics inventory being consigned to the trash can of Valve’s servers, as they were rendered useless in the process.

Nobody likes cheaters, so raise a glass this evening to the VAC team.

  1. Wait, Valve doing their job and not leaving it to run wild? …..

Half Life… oh feck it, there’s more chance of Digital Homicide owning EA then there is Half life the third.

And erm…. i kinda don’t see this as worthwhile news tbh. More of snatch material imo.

But yeah, Valve usually is hands off unless it is Digital homicide levels of aggression.
