SOMA Launches December 1st On Xbox One, Will Receive A Safe Mode

The psychological horror that is SOMA will be available on December 1st for Xbox One, Frictional Games has confirmed. On top of that the developer has also announced a new feature for the game which is called Safe Mode, a free update that will be added to all versions of the game. Safe Mode removes all of the creatures from the experience allowing players to explore the world more freely without fear.

If you’ve not played SOMA you can read our review of the game here where it was described as having “he DNA of movies like Alien, 2001, Sunlight, and Event Horizon, with a splash of the original Dead Space and Bioshock, but brings plenty of new ideas to the table.”

  1. Great news, been meaning to play it on PS4, but will play it on Xbox at this rate.

    • A patch to add the safe mode is coming to PS4 and PC.

  3. Excellent game, one of my all time favourites.

And that Safe mode sounds very interesting, maybe similar to what Ubisoft will be offering for their latest AC. A mode for free exploration without having to fear being killed or getting in fights constantly. I missed that in several games with interesting worlds which I just cannot play with my kids. Not sure whether I’d go back to SOMA for that, though, but it makes the game more accessible, which is a good thing.

  4. I know some people found the monsters annoying, but removing them from the game will lessen the atmosphere. Not by much, it’s a very bleak game, but I think they should be left in as they are part of the story.
