See the first Deliver Us Mars gameplay trailer – September launch date confirmed

Frontier Foundry and developer KeokeN Interactive have announced that sci-fi adventure sequel Deliver Us Mars will release on 27th September, coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The mark the announcement, there’s also a brand new gameplay trailer to break down the game mechanics.

Set 10 years after Deliver Us The Moon’s Fortuna mission, a new protagonist and her companion drone find themselves similarly stranded on the red planet after their ship crash lands. Kathy Johanson, part of the crew of the Zephyr space shuttle has embarked on a mission to the Red Planet to try and retrieve the colonisation vessels known as ARKs that were sent there by the shadowy organisation known as Outward.

However, Kathy has an ulterior motive of trying to find out what happened to her father, Isaac, who joined Outward and went to Mars, leaving his daughter behind as a child. Aa mysterious message from the planet hinting at her past has lured her to space.

Building on the third person exploration of the original, Deliver Us mars will include platforming challenges, solving puzzles, scuba diving – I guess they found water on Mars, then? – zero G sequences, and a brand new launch sequence inside a spaceship. Some parts of the game will be set on Earth and the Moon, but the main goal will be to get to Mars, figure out what really happened to Outward’s colonists and the fate of Kathy’s dad.

Deliver Us Mars will make an appearance during the PC Gaming Show on 12th June, where the actress that is playing Kathy Johanson will be revealed.

Do you need to have played Deliver Us The Moon?

KeokeN say that you won’t need to have played the original, as this adventure stands on its own, though it will obviously help to know the setting and background of the original. The Deliver Us games are set in a future where Earth’s resources have been depleted, but were propped up by the discovery of a new method of energy generation possible on the Moon. When that resource is suddenly cut off, Deliver Us The Moon features the Fortuna mission, a final, last-gasp attempt to reach the Moon, find out what happened and try to restore power to Earth. There were some narrative threads left dangling come the end of the game that I’m sure Deliver Us Mars will look to explore.

The game launched for PC in late 2019, and then came to PS4 and Xbox One in April 2020. We reviewed the console release of the game, with Tom saying in our Deliver Us The Moon review:

“Deliver Us The Moon really surprised me. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but it’s a fantastic sci-fi thriller that kept me gripped throughout. Deliver Us The Moon is a stellar experience which will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.”

If you’re interested in checking out Deliver Us The Moon, then you might want to hold off for just a few more weeks. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrade for Deliver Us The Moon has had a last minute delay. Previously expected for release on 19th May, it will now come out for PS5 and Series X|S on 23rd June 2022, adding in ray-traced shadows, reflections and audio, and making use of the DualSense controller features.
