Jumplight Odyssey has been announced by Armello developer League of Geeks, and it is a different type of game to that release. Jumplight Odyssey has been described as a roguelite colony sim, inspired by a broad range of sci and 1970’s anime. The game will likely draw some comparisons to FTL.
The aim of Jumplight Odyssey is to guide the starship Jumplight Starship to a new home at the Forever Star. The need for this follows after the people are forced to flee their home planet as Admiral Voltan and the warmongering Zutopans follow relentlessly to take the ship and its people down. As the journey goes on more crew members will appear, and they will all interact with each other with relationships and rivalries blooming. As the Captain, your job is to keep hope alive by taking care of the crew.
The gameplay of Jumplight Odyssey will see players jump from system to system, with each one having their own challenges to face. Crew members will need to be sent out to harvest resources to keep Jumplight Starship’s journey going on, but people will die as missions can and will go wrong. However, as it is a roguelike, Jumplight Odyssey has been built so players learn from mistakes in subsequent runs until they finally make it to the goal.
“Jump light Odyssey marries the aesthetic of iconic sci-fi anime with colony management sims and roguelite sensibilities to create a charming and challenging experience,” said Trent Kusters, Co-Founder and Director, League of Geeks. “Whether you’re interested in space opera melodrama between crew members, careful resource management, colony building systems, or “just one more run” action, Jumplight Odyssey has something for everyone, and we’re thrilled to recruit captains for our Early Access launch in 2023!”
As stated, Jumplight Odyssey will be released on Steam Early Access in 2023. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are also planned, once Jumplight Odyssey leaves early access.
