What We Played #652 – Fallout 4, Sand Land & Dave the Diver

fallout 4 ps5 upgrade ps plus

What a week it has been, with the sun finally showing its face again after a chilly April for the UK. We’ve still had plenty of time to play games though, and I’ve been continuing to plug away at Fallout 4 and No Rest for the Wicked, as well as taking some time to chill out with Endless Ocean: Luminous which is just a little bit too calm for its own good. Besides that I’ve made a start on Sand Land for our review which will appear after the weekend.

Firstly, we have to say a huge congratulations to our very own Nic Bunce, who, with his partner Tash (it’s fair to assume she did all the work) has welcomed baby Sebastian into the world this week! This has meant he’s mostly been playing the game of sleep deprivation, but he’s still only at Lvl 1 – lvl 100 is where you start to see spiders everywhere, so hopefully he doesn’t get that far…

Aran has had a much quieter week, playing about thirty minutes of Starfield and a similar amount of time on Outland, the platformer that Housemarque made over a decade ago, in an attempt to go through his Steam backlog.

Gamoc has played Dave the Diver, saying, “It is excellent and weird”, and Fallout 4, which went as smoothly as you’d expect – “I had to kill an invisible Mirelurk queen last night because it’s still buggy as hell many years after its initial release as is typical for Bethesda”.

It’s been an anticipated journey into Pentiment for Ade, but has it been worth the wait? He says, “It took a looooong time to get going but I think I’m enjoying it now. Maybe? Characters are well rounded, the script is well-written, but I’m definitely not well-hooked. I’ll let you know next week if I’ve stuck with it or got entirely distracted and ended up playing something else!”

Nick P has mostly been spent trying to finish off Rise of the Ronin, alongside some bouts of Street Fighter 6 and Dead by Daylight. Meanwhile, Tuffcub has been playing Madison VR, while preparing for DJ Hero IRL Edition as he’s off DJ’ing in Manchester this weekend!

Jim’s week has been very Skyrim-heavy with his Wood Elf ranger/trickster about to hit level 30. He says, “In typical Bethesda game fashion, I’ve gone well off the beaten path, leaving the early stages of the main quest behind to explore the different regions and cities of Skyrim. Hopefully, by the time I’m finished, either Skyblivion or Skywind will be ready to play.”

Steve has started Another Crab’s Treasure which is “cute and nails in equal measures”. He’s also got through some Mario RPG whilst sitting on buses to and from Preston.

And finally, Tef has been plugging away at some review games that he’s not going to tell us about – rude! – but was rather enthused by a “real time deckbuilding battle royale” game called Inferni that he saw at WASD last week. It’s really early days, but there’s a lot of potential there.

What about you, played anything good?

  1. Elden Ring – i had another few goes at Malenia, went from lasting 3 seconds in 1st attempt, to 2 mins in 2nd attempt and 4 mins in 3rd attempt, still didn’t beat her first phase but somehow i don’t feel as intimidated by her anymore.
And then i cracked a single rune arc and defeated Gideon, Hoarah Loux and Radagon one after the other ! Elden Beast broke my winning streak but i just have those two fights to win now and i’ll be done with the game until the DLC.

  2. Played mostly Ghost of Tsushima, am somewhere in the 2nd act now, still enjoying it. And some more Rayman:Legends, of course.

Then I tried one of the new additions to Extra, Tales of Kenzera: Zau, which did not start off too badly. It’s an ok sidescrolling platformer with some shooting mixed in, but after an hour or so, there’s an annoying difficulty spike, which made me stop playing and delete the game, quite a shame.

And this afternoon, we tried Iron Man VR, which I got cheap some years back. Ouch.! It’s one of the worse VR games I played, long loading screens, awful controls, awkwardly twisted arms being displayed, and uncomfortable positions this game requires. The annoying Move controllers add to all this, they’re quite immersion breaking, as you never know which buttons to press. What a missed opportunity..!
