NetEase’s spin-off from Bungie’s Destiny universe has launched today on mobile and PC. Destiny: Rising is a brand new game set in an alternate universe to the main Bungie titles but retains everything that makes the series popular.
I have been playing the game for a couple of hours using the Mumu emulator for PC – something NetEase actively encourages – and I have to say it’s rather good. It’s Destiny, but all brand new. New characters,. supers, weapons, locations, missions, basically everything everyone has been screaming at Bungie to add to Destiny 2. The only major difference so far is you have two weapons rather than three.
Stay tuned for a full report on the game when I have played some more and have reached any monetisation barriers.
The alternate timeline is set in a period way before the setting familiar to those who have played the main Destiny Games, dated before the Last City has been built. Players take control of various characters from a roster that will keep growing, but they will not be based on the classes of Hunter, Titan, and Warlock. Instead the characters have their own abilities. Some of the characters players will get to use include Ikora Rey, Iron Lord Jolder, and Kabr. The main protagonist is a character called Wolf that players can to customise.
The first Season, named Daybreak, will be launching “soon”, no exact date has been given.
