Sega has announced a Crazy Taxi: World Tour Multiplayer Closed Network Test will take place in September, featuring two multiplayer modes from the upcoming arcade taxi racer revival which is expected to release in 2027.
They’ve also released a new trailer for the West Coast map:
Sign-ups to take place are open now through 31st August – head here to put your name down – with successful applicants then invited to play from 1AM BST on 11th September through to 1AM BST 13th September. The test will be available across PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Two multiplayer modes will be available to play with Pickup Race and Cops ‘N’ Cabbies described as follows:
- In Pickup Race, up to 6 players will compete with each other to drop off as many passengers as possible within a set time limit, earning as much crazy money as possible.
- In Cops ‘N’ Cabbies, players will be split into two, 3-person teams competing against each other
Two maps will feature, with four characters, six cars and various tune up options.
Speaking of maps, the West Coast map takes obvious cues from San Francisco, and with a wide variety of potential customers. You could be delivering a body builder directly into the ocean, take a fisherman to go catch their dinner, or help a pizza delivery boy deliver his massive stack of thin crusts.
This new iteration of Crazy Taxi, which was announced in 2023 alongside a new Jet Set Radio and Golden Axe, brings back the hallmarks of the series in a pretty spiffy looking modern graphics package. Helmed by original Crazy Taxi creator Kenji Kanno, Crazy Taxi: World Tour will take players on a taxi driving adventure around the globe with a new story-driven campaign featuring masked villains who stole his cab. Rude!
Crazy Taxi will be available for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 in 2027.
