Stifling. That’s how I’ve personally felt all week, sat locked away at home or at work busy beavering away to put the final finishing touches to Project 2. I’m sure the other guys would agree, summer isn’t the greatest time in the year to be a developer – but hey, I’m not complaining. You have to suffer a little for your art (and your dream for that matter I suppose)!
The process we are currently going through involves finishing touches, adding a bit of spit and polish here and there, and also checking our code… not necessarily for bugs, but for efficiency, making sure that everything is running as it should, that there are no memory leaks or issues which don’t make themselves immediately apparent. Personally this is my least favourite of all the development stages. I’m a simple sort of guy. I like to type things into a computer, press a button and make pretty things happen. Not spend hours working with a particular function or variable only for it to have no obvious effect on the game. However, its all for the greater good, and still an important part of the whole process (perhaps, arguably, the most important part – we want the game to work as intended after all)!.
I still have a few improvements I’d like to bring to the game, not all aesthetic improvements (although some are), but more “content” improvements. I’m mindful that we have a limited amount of resources here, and we don’t want to be working on the game “ad infinitum” (we want to release it at some point) so I need to be mindful that we now need to be setting ourselves a deadline for a completed game – one that’s ready for testing by third parties to be confirmed!
Speaking of which, I guess its time for another little reveal – last of the cryptic reveals this week, something planned next week, so.. here goes:
Another boost to my confidence this week occurred when my son (3 years old) played the game and told me it was his favourite game. That was nice. Was good to see how simple the game is to play, and how even a 3 year old can play it. He then proceeded to tell me that Super Mario Brothers is better and his real favourite. Hey. I had a moment there OK!?
Slightly shorter diary again this week – sorry to short change, but with us focussing on the less “flashy” stuff, it gives less to talk about here, we are (its official) building to an announcement so need to get our heads down and finish all the little bits and pieces so we finally have something to show you!

To be fair, Super Mario Brothers is awesome. Also, Id love to be a tester for when Project 2 or Project Blast are ready for it. :D
