Remember when those ‘analysts’ berated Medal of Honor’s ‘middling’ reviews? The buying public wasn’t listening, because the game’s shot to the top of the sales charts since its release on Friday, proving that marketing and knowing your audience is far more important than worrying about whatever score IGN gave.
In fact, not only has it pushed the mighty FIFA 11 down to 2nd spot, but it’s held off against the casual juggernaut that is Just Dance 2, which entered the charts at number three. Here’s how the rest of the list looks, along with links to our reviews where applicable.
- 1 MEDAL OF HONOR
- 2 FIFA 11
- 3 JUST DANCE 2
- 4 WII PARTY
- 5 PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2011
- 6 F1 2010
- 7 DEAD RISING 2
- 8 HALO: REACH
- 9 NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: ULTIMATE NINJA STORM 2

awwwww i want enslaved to be higher than castlevania! more to the topic though think i’m happy enough with BF:BC2 as a FPS at the moment. although MoH does look good it just doesn’t grab my attentoin

Having played them both I prefer MOH single player campaign with the multiplayer being almost identical. I recommend you buy MOH if you like BF:BC2
Kronik76
I agree about the single player campaign, I really enjoyed playing through it. However, I think that the multiplayer is much better on BF:BC2. I like the squad aspect of BF:BC2, it’s the thing that makes it really enjoyable for me. To be in a 4 man squad with 3 friends, only being able to hear each other on the headsets, being able to spawn on a teammate wherever he is on the map… these are the things which make BF:BC2 great and which are lacking in MOH.

Fair points!

Epic fail, analysts. Epic fail.

I can’t believe Modern Warfare 2 is still in the chart sat at number 14. Thats 11 months in the chart and only 1 month until it’s successor is released – impressive stuff.
As for medal of honor, I’ve had it since Thursday but only managed to play for 1/2 hour last night. Hopefully will have a good blast on it later.

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with Modern Warfare 2. Bought it 4 times after getting annoyed with it a trading it in 3 times. I can’t be the only one so that could be the reason behind that.

Four times !!! I bought it once for £20 quid and that was bad enough , but i planned on trading it in 2 weeks later as soon as the Battlefield Beta began but it was so good i just forgot all about MW2 and stuck it at the bottom of my pile of games .
I spent many more hours just playing the one map on the BF Beta than that pile of junk. Im just not into the Unreal Tournament type of shooters and will not make the mistake again with Black Ops .
Battlefield Vietnam/Expansion is what im most excited for during the remainder of this year and beyond.

Guessing one of the big reasons MoH is doing well in the initial sales figures is due to the fact that many people need a new war-based FPS fix now MW2 and BFBC2 have (in their eyes possibly) become a little jaded / stale. I’d be very surprised if MoH tops the charts for long and imagine many people are using it as a temporary fix prior to Black Ops. Be good if, in the long run, it sells well enough for a sequel as then it sounds like it could be a real contender to challenge Activisions behemoth and the winners in this competition… Us!

we will be winners, except when it comes to our pockets!

Indeed – with the qaulity of games coming out on a regular basis these days it does impact on our finances but a pleasant predicament to be a party to all the same:)

Yeah I preety much got it as an impulse buy on Friday evening just as a stop gap. I have played COD to death and wanted a FPS to last me a while, felt it was worth a risk to buy and can trade in as soon as I am bored of it.

That’s why I got MoH. But I was sadly disappointed as I expect many others to be. Only 5 hours gameplay! What a ripoff!!
I see no one has mentioned “Just Cause 2”. This beats MoH and BF (any) hands down. It has given me over 164 hours of fun and action so far (that’s playing time, not owning time!). Alright, it’s not strictly warfare, but it has more action, more vehicle (that you can drive/fly), more weapons and better AIs. The scenery is also the best I have seen – rippling water, wafting trees, moving clouds, sunsets and sunrises. Battles in the air as well as on the ground. If you are too good (or bad, depending on your point of view) the opposition gets bigger (try fighting off 5 helicopter gunships at one time for adrenaline inducing fun!). Sometimes they’ll even parachute in some more cannon fodder if you are doing well on the ground. But it never gets impossible like some games do. I’ll be sad when I finally finish it.

Any Battlefield ? I know its a matter of personal opinion but 1942 , Battlefield Vietnam , Battlefield 2 ,BF Special Forces , Battlefield 2142 and BFBC2 are a million miles away from Just Cause 2 (which is a fantastic singleplayer game) .
The only poor Battlefield was the one on PS2 and XBOX . One is a single player sandbox game and the other is the best multiplayer FPS series hands down for nearly ten years now .
Sorry im a 100% Battlefield fanboy and make no apoligies!

You haven’t reviewed Wii Sports Resort? *packs up and leaves* Good day, sir!

Any breakdown between the formats? I’m always interested to see the splits when Sony go that extra mile and include some added stuff – with MOH there was the PS3 beta, the E3 coverage, PS3 branded ads, and the exclusive copy of MOH:Frontline with the LE version (which curiously in a lot of online stores was cheaper than the standard version!).
In general there did appear to be this feeling (to me at least) that COD:Black Ops was on the 360’s ‘team’ and MOH was on the PS3’s ‘team’. Did the sales reflect this?
djhsecondnature
It was 52% (360) to 43% (PS3) I think.

I was all set to buy MOH and putting aside some of the negatives that have been mentioned, I have decided to go with Black Ops, the main reason I can sum up in one word ZOMBIES!!

Played on MoH for 5 hours on multiplayer last night. Couldn’t put it down. Like the campaign though, it’s a bit short in terms of unlocks and not many weapons. Snipers are everywhere too, spawn trapping is a pain but not as worse as Killzone 2. I’m sure EA and DICE have plenty up there sleeve for more weapons and maps. Overall though I love this game, A lot less bullsh*t deaths than MW2.

Curse Tesco and their stupid offers, I’ve just impulsed my way into helping it stay at the top for another week.
