Rumour: Slant Six Working on New Resident Evil

According to a secret document received by Kotaku, SOCOM: Confrontation developer Slant Six Games are working on a new, squad-based Resident Evil game. Codenamed ‘Raccoon City,’ the Vancouver based studio have also commented on their site how they’re working on “an amazing new project” with “a new publishing partner on a world class franchise,” adding credence to the rumour.

Capcom have been quite vocal about future projects developed outside of Japan, with new IP to be nurtured at home, while established series can be farmed out to Western developers. Ninja Theory will handle the new Devil May Cry reboot, while Blue Castle Games have already delivered the enjoyable Dead Rising 2. The less said about Dark Void and Bionic Commando the better.

Slant Six have had a rocky history of late, with their PSP-based SOCOM games faring better than PS3 exclusive SOCOM: Confrontation. With Resident Evil very much a cross-platform franchse, if this rumour is true, it does also suggest the studio will be going multiplatform, having only worked on Sony platforms in the past.

The next entry in the SOCOM series, SOCOM 4, is being developed by original SOCOM developer Zipper Interactive.

  1. A squad based resi evil would work really well, I’ll be keeping an eye out for this!

  2. If they’ve learnt from their mistakes with Socom, then maybe this could be good..but I won’t hold my breath.

  3. You never know it could be a exclusive in Japan? hehe *cough *cough but exclusively doesn’t matter. Resident Evil must go all-out if its to prove it will be compete against Yakuza: To the end and many other horror games.

    • If this is exclusive on any platform in any region, I’ll eat a zombie.

    • @Sympozium i think you need some Mynthons, since you’re coughing is very bad.

      • I blame the morning environment… dull has usual

  4. Hummm, interesting….

Survival Horror with your mates….AWESOME STUFF….

The potential is vast here tbh….

    • Indeed. I’m not too familiar with the Left 4 Dead series (so please do correct me if I’m wrong), but does anyone else feel that this could be something in a similar vein?

      • It was what I was going to reply with to DrNate. L4D is 4 player co-op zombie killing awesomeness. Steam had a sale on the weekend. You should’ve picked it up and joined us in some bashing (of the zombie kind). :-)

Although this sounds far more serious and tactical it could be very intense and satisfying. L4D is more entertaining and a little light-hearted in comparison.

  5. I would rather the Resi series went back to its roots. Resi 1 and 2 were by far the best in the series.

  6. or that Resi would be going PS exclusive, it’s not so hard to imagine considering PS2 got a lot of exculsive content. This game to me sounds like a more advanced version of the Outbreak series… which is good as I like them and the more action orientated role would suit it. I agree with sir_Jay though, I really hope Resi 6 goes back to its survival horror ruits and is developed by an Eastern developer, Western developers just don’t get horror I feel, look at Silent Hill: Homecoming!

    • was just about to post this, seems like a new outbreak, that game originally promised so much!

  7. I hope that the new resi is like the old one but with 4’s controls.
And has muitplayer. Who wouldn’t like killing zombies with you mates.

  8. “With Resident Evil very much a cross-platform franchse, if this rumour is true, it does also suggest the studio will be going multiplatform, having only worked on Sony platforms in the past.”

I reckon it’ll be a PSP title, considering their history has been much better on PSP – perhaps for the PSP2.

  9. This would make my day if this is a ps3 exclusive :)
