Not featuring too highly on our Top 100 Games of 2011 list, some felt TSA’s abhorrent display of “Diablo neglect” was due to the title’s Windows and Mac PC only status. After all, we are primarily a console bunch around these parts. Well, it looks like the game’s platforms might be a-changing. And no, there won’t be a recount. According to a job posting on Blizzard’s site, the über-developer may be considering bringing highly anticipated RPG Diablo III to consoles.
Spotted over at Gamasutura, Blizzard are looking to hire a leader designer, lead programmer and senior producer, all with a dedicated emphasis on console game delivery. The designer must have prior experience on console development, while the programmer is expected to lead “console development on the Diablo team.” As you can see, the word console features heavily.
The guy’s over at Battle.net, Blizzard’s community forums, however, have since tried to pacify rabid PC fans who have voiced their concerns since the news broke, clarifying that any console version of Diablo would not interfer or delay the current development schedule of the PC and Mac versions. The statement also mentions that the console title is “Diablo related” and hence may not actually be Diablo III. It states:
“As some of you may have seen over on the Diablo III home page, we’re currently exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles. As we’ve said in the past, with proper care the gameplay could suit the console platform, and we’re interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in contributing to such a project.
“To further reiterate what’s posted on the home page: this is not an announcement of a console title. We are first and foremost developing Diablo III for Windows and Mac PCs, and we have no intention of allowing a console interpretation to delay or otherwise affect the release of the game.
“As always feel free to discuss this topic here, but please note that we don’t have any further details to share at this time.”
Here’s the Diablo III cinematic trailer for your viewing pleasure (and now in English!). Just because it’s good to share.

!
(I would just leave the exclamation mark there on it’s own but I’ll probably get in trouble)
This is amazing news, I’m still on the fence about the idea but now I know the choice is there. My laptop would probably be laggy, have sticky loading times and and crash all the time so unless I forked out on an Alienware PC I’ve been eying up between now and then I’d have been screwed.
Blayney
Ditto. Desperately want this game, but my PC will just die I think. If there’s a PS3 version going, I’ll be awfully tempted.
YOURMUMANDME
I’d imagine like a lot of Blizzard games, the option to reduce the framerate, quality and shadowing would be there though. It’s not a great option but maybe it’d be like Tristram in the olden days ;D
(Tristram was corrected to a name with a capital T on my predictive text ! Apple, fans much ?)
Blayney
Haha. Sorry to tell you but Tristram (or Tristran) is actually a name… my mates cousin is called it. No doubt we found it weird as this was in like 2002 and we were heavily into D2.
YOURMUMANDME
I’ve known Tristran’s but never a Tristra’m ?

@kovacs, why is the trailer in Japanese ?!
Don’t say why not… :D
Kovacs
It is? ;)
I probably linked in the Japanese one by accident. I’ll switch it with its English equivalent in the morning. In the meantime, enjoy the mystical sounds of nihongo.
ElGuason
that’s cool!

D3 has no specific release date yet so who could prove that the PC version wasn’t delayed due to a console counterpart?
Kovacs
Blizzard say so. And developers don’t lie.
:)

Never played any Diablo, but from what I’ve heard I’ll certainly look into this.

If the PS3 Diablo III plays anything like Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance or Champions of Norrath, I’m definitely getting it.

Oh please, pretty please let this happen
