Gran Turismo 5 1.01 Patch Lands

Anyone that’s lucky enough to have snared a copy of Gran Turismo 5 before its official release date of – yes – tomorrow, would have no doubt been slightly confused as to the lack of any semblance of an online mode and lots of error messages saying that whatever you’re trying to do can’t be done with ‘this version of the game’.

Well, that’s because the version on the disk doesn’t have an online portion at all, until now.  This morning the much anticipated (at least amongst those of us trying to write up some kind of ‘review’) patch was released, which takes GT5 up to version 1.01 and adds lots of new features mainly revolving around the internet community.

So, when you get your game tomorrow look out for a more in your face install pop-up, the ability to trade car cards with friends, a comprehensive (and highly collectable) meta game in the form of the Museum and the option to create lobbies.  Oh, and of course, the chance to take the racing simulation online rather than just battling the AI.

If you want to know what we think of Gran Turismo 5 be here tomorrow, at 8am…

  1. I’m glad they didn’t delay the release to add this to the retail disc. There would have been an outcry!

    • It’s funny that it didn’t make it on the disk… I mean it’s not like they sent out the disk to the prints and then remembered that they forgot to add the online functionality to that version…

      • Not funny: it was smart. Remember that the PS3 was hacked just a while ago? And that pirated games can’t be updated? I bet that online was released as an updated to block any attempt to trick the PSN to allow a hacked console to play online by the simplest way possible: requiring an update that the hacked consoles can’t do so far. Which is great, as we won’t suffer from cheaters.

    • I actually assume that part of the delay was them tearing out 133MB of vital data so that pirates can’t play online.

      • That sounds more likely than the other reasons doing the rounds.

      • Nope. They were adding the hidden “Run over zombies” mode that will unlock once you’ve collected every car.

  2. I’m soooooooo looking forward to this but I won’t be happy until my copy is in my ps3. Been waiting for years. Only 1 more sleep. Lol

    • Mine arrived today, but I don’t get home til 9.30 tonight and have to be up at 5am, so will probably only get as far as having it installed and patched :( – or maybe an all-nighter would be more appropriate, hmmmmm…

    • I am hoping for the arrival of Gran Turismo 5 today along with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II – I think today is a sick day.

      ~ sick is used here as both the illness sense and the modern day term for awesome.

      • Haha, the nation comes to a grinding halt as everyone in the country throws a sickie or takes paid leave in the wake of the greatest game ever to arrive through letterboxes.

  7. Oh dear, I’m very very tempted to get a pay day loan and get this with a steering wheel. Stupid thing is, I get paid on Thursday, surely I can wait til then?

  9. Working from home today… might not get chance to play but at least i will get the install and patch update out of the way so when i do sit down to play the game i can start straight away and get into the action.

    Shopto.net and Royal Mail don’t fail me now!

    • I can’t work from home on days when I know something like this is coming. I am too weak! I often end up in the office, even though I have no reason to be, just to avoid temptation

  10. Tomorrow at 8am? I will be balls deep in GT myself by then! Maybe read your review on one of the compulsory toilet breaks my body inconveniently insists on during marathon gaming sessions.
