Looks like the calls for Firefly and Castle star Nathan Fillion to play the Uncharted series’ dashing hero Nathan Drake have fallen on deaf ears, as Mark Wahlberg (yes, that’s Max Payne) has confirmed in an interview with MTV News that he will be playing the role of Drake in the upcoming movie based on the games.

Wahlberg, who also appeared in The Other Guys and The Fighter, will play the role in a script written and directed by David O. Russell. “David is one of the best writer/directors I’ve ever worked with,” says Wahlberg in the interview. “The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we’ll be making that movie this summer.”

That “insane idea” doesn’t appear to be based on either of the games, however, with the actor also confirming that both Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci will also be appearing in the film adaptation, as Drake’s uncle and dad, respectively, neither of which have appeared thus far in the games.

    • As an old hater of Marky Mark, I must say I tend to like Mark Wahlberg as an actor.

      As for this particular instance, I’m with BIGAL-1992 100% – *facepalm* upon *facepalm* upon *facepalm*…

  2. I dislike Mark Wahlburg quite a bit.

    • He’s actually done a couple of pretty decent movies, tired kings, four brothers, the shooter. I enjoyed all of them in a cheesy shit sort of way. I just detest the fact he used to be marky mark, but everyone somehow seems to have forgotten that.

    • Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci are poor choices in my eyes im shocked samuel l jackson isn’t innit he in everything know lol but i think nathan drake will make a decent Drake he has a witty side and he is a good action star.

    • I’m gonna blame David O. Russell for this. A man that disrespects the source material with such passion is someone who should be banned from doing any sort of adaptation. Seriously, take a look at this:

      WORD IS. He’s not even played the game!? It’s unimaginable, I can’t believe someone can be that unprofessional and be successsful in any business on Earth. It boggles the mind.

      • It’s unbelievable that he had the guts to say that. The original Uncharted was so close to the Indiana Jones movies that it’s a shame that the director has not even tried to check out what he’s destroying.

  9. Ugh, “Uncharted: The Happening” coming to a streaming service near you – 2 weeks after theatrical release. Nathan Fillion or no deal.

    • Never going to give a $100m+ movie to a largely unknown actor

      • I think 14 million viewers for Castle would disagree.

      • But you can bet your ass that they’ll insult their entire fanbase for a big name.

  10. I really wanted Hugh Jackman, he has the ‘seen it all before’ look about him and a sense of humour in films which is close to Drake’s

    • Nah, Jackman wouldn’t have been a good choice either. They really should’ve gone for Nathan Fillion.

      • Never heard of him & the studios struggle to give big bucks to projects without a big name.

      • I’ve seen the advert for Castle whilst watching Takeshi’s Castle before school. Is Fillion the main bloke character?

      • Yup, he’s Count Takeshi and the others are doing challenges to try and storm his castle
