Anyone who tells you size doesn’t matter obvious has a very small… mind. Everyone knows bigger is better and I speak entirely from experience of being 6’5” and the size of a small outhouse.
Final Fantasy XIII held the honour of being ‘the biggest thing ever’ on PlayStation 3, nicely filling over two thirds of a Blu-ray with 37.6 GB of content. News reaches us that Killzone 3 has trumped the Square Enix title by 3.9 GB of data, rocking in at a stupendous 41.5GB. In comparison, Killzone 2 barely scratched the surface of a Blu-ray disc with a measly 12 GB of data on the disc.
Suprisingly the game will not require a gargantuan install to your hard drive, in fact Just Push Start report that the game will have no install whatsoever. Top marks Guerrilla!

Good luck trying to pirate that…
beeje13
Lol, that could actually be a good way to combat piracy….. Sony could force devs to add meaningles random code to fill the space up, or, if they can, put the same data on twice so loading is quicker.
wonkey-willy
as the code is put there surely the code can be removed.
probably stripped down the game wont be much bigger than a dual layer disc
Mentality
Considering they could probably rent it and back it up? Not only that but some people would still be prepared to go to the lengths of downloading it if they want it bad enough. Just because it’s large doesn’t mean it will stop people.
I do wonder though what would stop people downloading and playing ripped games, the option of getting something for free will always appeal to a large audience.
Deathbrin
Is it coming on PSN? ^^
Deathbrin
And wasn’t MGS4 the biggest thing ever?
ARUMIR Sympozium
It filled up the disc appartantly… maybe the 25gb one
squashme
yea MGS4 was around 80GB reportedly but Sony woulodnt give Konami 100GB disc to put the game on so they reduced the quality to around 50GB
cc_star
Yeah, uncompressed audio takes up a lot of space.
Also I’m not sure that the PS3 is capable reading more than two layers, without hardware changes to the Blu-ray hardware so 25gb or 50gb are the only options.
squashme
i think the PS3 and other blu-ray players can read upto 250GB with a simple blu-ray drive firmware update anything bigger tha that needs a new blu violet laser
mcphatty
Just stuck MGS4 in my laptop, it says its a 50gb disk! I was sort of hoping for some Kojima film to pop up, sadly nothing :(
jonny_bolton
I think MGS was just the biggest install onto the HDD.
cc_star
GT5?
ANTS101
Even if it did come to PSN, I wouldn’t be able to download it on my 40gb PS3 :(
If only I could be bothered to upgrade it.
toutski
I think the most impressive thing is the ‘no install’.
rht992
dam right. loved that killzone 2 didn’t need one. very well done
squashme
im still surprised Naughty dog filled up 25GB with UC/UC2 with no install stuff like this is puttin 3rd party devs to shame
Kennykazey
True, and the interesting 3D-ish load-screens kept the player busy fiddling with the controller as the game got ready. I’m truly excited for KZ3, and this just gave me an anticipationgasm.
jcor
Yeah but the load times on Killzone 2 can be fairly lengthy, especially for an online match.
topshot09
Guess everyone forgot about god of war 3
cc_star
It is impressive, but I hope it doesn’t freeze for a second at random intervals like KZ2 did whilst we wait for the data to stream off the disc… A discreet caching of textures etc like God Of War 3 would preferable to that
Deathbrin
I think it’s something with my disc, the intro movie starts lagging heavily after the speech, if you reboot the game it’s fine though; also had those exact freezes in the campaign. I’d prefer an install honestly. :S
squashme
if your talkin bout the freezin when u change maps on the single player i think thats normal as i got that aswell
beeje13
Yeah i wish I could install the whole game (that’s why I bought the dammn 320GB HDD!)
AG2297
If the game has no install and runs smoothly then I am seriously impressed with Guerilla!
jonny_bolton
As you’ve said. If GG can do this it really does show off the power that can be got out of blu-rays and the PS3.
wick15
Agreed, hard to believe when a Blu-ray drive has such low read speeds. Would be an achievement for Guerilla.
Foxhound_Solid
Can hardly wait for KZ3.
Me – 6 4
My young bro – 6 3
my youngest bro is 6 8!

Cadabena
I’d be somewhat concerned about your youngest brother being 4 years older than you…
iAvernus
I cannot wait to play this! When this comes out, I can say farewell to Black Ops!
KillaScorp
Looking forward to this – wonder how much of this disc is taken up by the 50+ hours of cutscenes they have shot. (I know not all 50 hours will be on the disc
beeje13
50 Hours!! thats more than Metal Gear solid 5 (20 I think)
R4U Eldave0
Wow thats a big game! Glad there is no install requirements however as I am really running out of space on my Slim :( Trying to put off the inevitable upgrade to a larger HDD
DJ Judas
No install is essential, I’ve no.space left and can’t justify the upgrade.
gazzagb
No install is impressive – as long as that doesn’t mean ridiculous loading times.
