Amazon have stated that the Nintendo 3DS has become their most pre-ordered console ever. The upcoming handheld has beaten the PlayStation 3’s pre-order numbers by twenty percent and looms large over Nintendo stablemate, the Wii by fifty-six percent.
Chris Poad, Director of Video Games at Amazon UK said:
It’s unusual for a handheld console to attract this amount of excitement in the run up to launch, such high levels of interest are normally reserved for the play-at-home hardware like the ground-breaking Nintendo Wii and last year’s Microsoft Kinect, Nintendo 3DS is launching at a time when interest in all things 3D is incredibly high and with the promise of real 3D graphics without glasses, it’s a real breakthrough in handheld video game entertainment
With just over a week still to go until launch, and pre-orders still being taken, it is reasonable to assume that the figure will increase. Of course, online purchasing is much more commonplace today than it was for the PlayStation 3’s UK launch back in 2007 and even more so than it was in 2006 when the Wii famously sold out everywhere.
That said, the 3DS is being ordered significantly more than Kinect or Move so perhaps that’s some indication of just how popular the device will be.

some weeks ago Patcher said the NGP was “dead on arrival”, and although its a day-one purchase for me and i have no interest whatsoever in the 3DS, im starting to think there might be some truth in his (usually dumb) words.

I’m preparing my eyes for the battering they are going to get next week reviewing 3DS games. Painkillers – I choose you!

It’s not very effective…

wow, people amaze me.

Argh, I hate Nintendo hype. I wasn’t even slightly interested a few weeks ago, now I’m sitting at my desk with my hand poised over the preorder button on play.com.

Same here dude. I want interested but all the hype and Pokemon and other DS games I like make me want to preorder it but I’m not sure.

Still haven’t committed, decent deal on Tesco though, 196 with a voucher to buy a game for a tenner.

“when interest in all things 3D is incredibly high”
You big, fat liar!

Hardly surprising if I’m honest.
The 3DS is the most revolutionary handheld in many years TBH. All you people putting down the 3DS need to try one out for yourselves. You won’t believe how good the 3D is until you see it.

We have a demo unit at the shop i work at, it was great for the first 5 minutes, then i got a headache. This was the case with most members of staff working there (15-25 min was limit). Great Tech, but i’ll wait for the NGP.

I guess it’s a bit hit-and-miss whether or not your eyes agree with the 3D. I’m not sure age comes into it, but I’m 17 and I played with the 3D at full for an hour at a 3DS event without any problems at all.
I was originally excited for the NGP, but due to the lack of the 3D screen it seems more like a mini PS3 to me. If that’s what you want then I understand. I just see DS games as pick up and play games with lots of fun quirks about them, whereas PSP games are mini versions of console blockbuster titles, albeit dreadfully downscaled.
That’s my problem, I hardly used the PSP because I’d rather game on the PS3 and have a greater experience of the same thing.
I will still probably end up having both handhelds in my possession before the year is over with though. xD

Still going to wait for NGP

I sooo hope Sony add on 3D before its launch.

I will eventually get one I think.

Well, I tried one out outside of HMV (albeit and attempt at talking to the very pretty lady advertising the console) after college today, and I’m shocked at how average it is. My eyes hurt after 5 minutes, the 3D was completely under-whelming and I couldn’t move it an inch out of a certain position before it stopped working. Poor, in my opinion, my PSP Go has far better graphics, games that aren’t Zelda or Mario (hate both) and was much cheaper.

Am i the only person who really isnt interested in this 3DS? I just think its another gimmick like the whole WII motion control. Dont get me wrong its gonna sell amazing well! But give it a few years time when other bigger companys make a similar product but a hundred times better, then ill invest.
