Assassin’s Creed: Lost Legacy Cancelled?

In a recent interview with Jostiq Assassin’s Creed lead writer, Darby McDevitt, suggests that the series’ 3DS debut may no longer be on the cards. Announced last year, Lost Legacy was set to follow the final adventure of Ezio de Firenze Auditore as he travels East in search of the Assassin’s base of operations in Syria, the same location in which players first took the reins as Altair. For those of you who are following the release of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations it should sound familiar; in fact McDevitt told that the narrative for Ubisoft’s upcoming console release was pretty much stripped away from the 3DS title.

This is by no means confirmation that Lost Legacy won’t be hitting store shelves, however it does call into question what plans Ubisoft now have for extending the franchise via the 3DS platform. Will the development team stay on course and develop a game in parallel with Revelations’ plot arc or decide to conjure up something akin to a spin-off, similar to previous Assassin’s Creed games on the Nintendo DS?

  1. I can only imagine the harm it would do to the 3DS’s reputation if this gets cancelled. It’s struggling against a stigma of having too few decent games as it is

    • I see where you are coming from; Lost Legacy was one of the few reasons why I picked up the console in the first place.

  2. It should be possible for them to port AC:R over to the 3DS as it is powerful enough to handle the AC engine abeit with slighly scaled down graphics. I would imagine that they are getting their developers to work on AC:R and give Ezio an excellent sendoff. Although knowing Ezio, it will include a few hundred women and a few assassantions.;p
I am looking forward to this.
I may try to get this on release if it is not out in November as that month is alread taken by Skyrim and UC3.

    • I’m not exactly a tech expert, but I very much doubt the 3DS has the power to pull off a fully featured AC port, even with pixelated graphics. If Ubisoft approach the 3DS platform with an AC game, it will almost definitely be some sort of stealth-action sidescroller.

      • I think it may have enough power to use the engine. Although i think there may be a space issue with the catridges that the 3DS uses. It would be excellent if they did managed to pull of a full AC game on the 3DS.I don’t like the sound of AC being a stealth action sidescroller as that would limit the stealth part.

  3. …and in a couple of weeks a AC game for the PS-Vita will be revealed

  4. They shouldnt release them so soon….
