The internet is full of debate this morning about the comments made in PSM3 about Fallout 3 looking worse on the PS3 than it does on any other platform.
Obviously it will look best on a high-end PC, everything does so we’ll ignore that but why should it look better on the 360? The only plausible explanation is that Bethesda aren’t putting the work in. The PS3 has more power, more storage capability and more resolution at its disposal than the 360. I know the memory allocations are dealt with a bit strangely but that shouldn’t make a huge difference to displayable textures, it matters more to load times.
So, in my opinion (not necessarily the opinion of TSA) Bethesda are short-changing PS3 owners by not giving them the product that the machine is capable of. That angers me but at the same time I completely understand why: It just isn’t worth putting the development time into the PS3 version because it will not sell enough to make it massively profitable.
Oh, we don’t get trophies at launch either. Splendid.

This sucks – I have this game pre-ordered too.
Getting a 360 (not getting rid of my PS3, but owning both) gets more appealing month by month.
Games look better (when they shouldn’t), there are less PS3 exclusives, and the 360 counterparts don’t have to worry about ‘achievement support’ either.
Will this game ever get trophies? Or is it another one that won’t be patched. Ever.

They have commited to a trophy patch “in the future” but that means playing through the game twice if you want the trophies.
It is getting to a point now when we should be happy to be included in the multi-platform releases, never mind expecting 3rd party exclusives.
That 360 addition does get more tempting, if only MS weren’t evil and the 360 wasn’t a bit… dumbed down.

Lol, yeah. It is a bit like selling your soul to the devil =P.
The PS3s main problem, for me, is the lack of RPGs, especially JRPGs. If, like the PS2, it’d kept churning out even semi-good ones along with some amazing ones, Japan wouldn’t be buying 360s in droves, and the market might seem a little more balanced.
As it stands, the PS3 needs to enact its trophies as mandatory for any game not out before the end of November really. On top of that, it needs to push 3rd parties for exclusives and tell them (and multi-platform developers) to really push the PS3 – if the thing can look better than the Xbox, do it so that you do sell to the people on that console and inspire people to buy the console.
’tis a great shame… I did’t want 2 consoles this gen, but it looks like I won’t have much choice at this rate!

Too bad this rumour isn’t being backed up by some video ‘evidence’. Haven’t heard anyone at Bethesda sayin’ anything about an inferiour version. I just don’t buy stuff like this until someone can show me something convincing. I bet the damage’s already done, it’s all over the web allready ;-(

True but would you expect Bethesda to come out and say “yeah we made the PS3 version a bit shitter, you probably want to think twice about buying it”? No.
It’ll be interesting when the magazine hits the shelves to see if the quotes are still there, if it’s been taken out of context and if it really is what it’s being touted as being.
Of course, I just don’t agree with most of the graphics comparisons I’ve seen, this might be another case.

no, they probably would’nt, unless they are really sure of themselves and’ll say that there are no differences at all. quite unnerving that there’s no statement yet, if you think about it.

when the lead platform is ps3 we get an equal or superior version.
if lead platform is pc or 360 it’ll be inferior.
the gap is shrinking but i reckon we’ve still got a good period of this to come.
it seems the architecture is sufficiently different that ports to ps3 are very inefficient.

Surely that’ll just be the PC version? it seems bizarre that in 2008 people would still even think about making a widescreen format by cropping an outdated 4:3.

Games like Burnout Paradise, COD4, BioShock show that there is no reason for games to look any better on the 360. Developers need to really wrap their heads around multi-core processing development. GHz are not getting any higher, so multiple cores are here to stay.

DoucheVader — the 360 *is* multi-core, it’s just the obscure usage of the way the PS3 development is done to make use of the cores is much more difficult than it is for the PC and 360.
The PS3 may be more powerful, but if it’s more obscure that developers aren’t willing/able to easily use that power, what’s the point?
But, I do agree that multicore software design is here to stay.

Due to such poor support, I wont be buying it.
I will if it gets trophies though.

This feels like the shaft players got on Rainbow Six: Vegas, which looks fine until you plug it into an HDTV, where it looks like amazing crap. The 360 version, on the other hand, looks gorgeous.
The two games I’ve seen that actually look better on the PS3 are Dark Sector (which had the worst story ever) and GTA4 (no lag issues).

OK well how does it play is it still a blast to play. Do the supposed worst graphics then the 360 mean much. Is it a lot worst or slightly worst. I mean if I do not have a 360 then why would I care. Unless the framerate is so bad it’s not functunol who gives a crap. Honestly some of the most fun I have had with a game has nothing to do with graphics. I mean you people all need to chill out a little. If the game is fun and the frame rate is solid who cares it’s not like I will be playing this beside someone playing it on there 360 so I will not even no any bettter. Man this generation of gamers are made up of a bunch of cry babys.
Now the fact that it does not ave trophies is a little bothersome and I will be waiting till they offer a patch. And on the exclusive DL content if it cost’s money to purchase which it probably will then they can have it.

On reading your post again you’re clearly talking about Bethesda. My bad.
Anyway, ^here’s^ a statment from PSM3. Doesn’t sound half as bad as everyone’s making it out to be.
AS USUAL!!!

I don’t think it will make the game bad, I just think it shows how the devs aren’t using the PS3 to it’s potential and aren’t giving the PS3 owners the products they deserve (even if Sony don’t deserve them!)
