Afrika After All?

Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 11:30 pm

Rumours

Some websites are saying that Afrika is going to get a release in the US thanks to the National Geographic getting into games.

Whilst Nat Geo are definitely getting into gaming I can’t find any evidence that this means a US (and hopefully therefore a European) release for the previously Japanese-only “photo-em-up” and the aforementioned sites don’t quote their sources so this is marked as rumour until something solid can be ascertained.

It does sound feasible though and Afrika looks stunning so here’s hoping it does turn out to be true!

mmmm, nah. I just can’t see myself enjoying a game when you just take photos. It would need a mighty fine story for me to play!
Im not bothered about shoot outs or explosions or anything. But yeah. It’s just not for me.

I take it you never played Project Zero then.

Simply incredible concept and a fantastic game. True, that worked in a survival horror context - but there’s nothing to say this isn’t an immersive experience (until someone now shamefully points me to the review labelling it as rubbish)

Isn’t that like Burnout without the cars or Guitar Hero without the songs?

    fredrikpedersen Says:

I don’t get it? What does Burnout has to do with Afrika? Burnout is set in a fictional copy of LA.

The point I was making was that the biggest thing about FarCry 2 was the guns, so saying it’s like it but without them is surely saying it’s like taking the main feature out of a game.

Like Gta without the open free world or Warhawk without airplanes. Or LittleBigPlanet without SackBoy.

I’m a professional photographer and I’d love this game. I’d love it more if they had proper cameras instead of the Sony ones which are like toys but even so, I can’t afford a real African safari shoot so I’d lap this up all day long.

I would definitely get this. Showed my grandchildren various trailers of it, and they were fascinated. The 4 year old sat there trying to name all the animals, and then, when it finished, asked “will the lions eat you if you get too close?” I told him that the photographer always carries a spare antelope around with him, in case of such an emergency, and he went away happy that no-one dies! :D
