EU PSN Blog – Arrives April 17th

We asked for it and we're finally getting it, ThreeSpeech is dead, long live the all new EU PlayStation Blog.

PlayStation fans here in Europe have all long been jealous of the US’s PlayStation Blog.  We have been crying out to SCEE for them to give us a similar forum, and we’ve run many polls with our readers, all of which we’ve passed on to our contacts at SCEE.  Well, finally, it seems our cries have not fallen on deaf ears after all.  As of April 17th, this very year, ThreeSpeech will be replaced by our very own EU PlayStation Blog!

Here’s what ThreeSpeech has to say

As of April the 17th Three Speech will be bowing out to make way for a brand new and shiny EU PlayStation blog.

It’s your feedback, comments and suggestions that have made this possible, so you should all be very proud! Obviously both Three Speech and SCE UK are very grateful to everyone who has made this site so busy and lively over the past two and half years. Your input has really helped PlayStation to grow, and the new blog will be a further way for you to contribute ideas. It’s been good fun meeting all of you and we’re looking forward to seeing you on the EU blog!

We’ll have more info on this over the next few days…

This is very good news. Now if only they can sort out the EU PSN Store…

  1. About freaking time! Maybe now we can finally bridge the gap between Europe and America.

  2. Interesting news. Something someone said to be not long back made me think this day would come pretty soon; ThreeSpeech was always hamstrung in what it could do, but now SCEE need to handle their own blog with the same dedication that the US boys do. We’ll see.

  3. just read this post and I…

    JIZZED IN MY PANTS

  4. I’m pretty (Three)speechless about this :)
With the OPM HD, the Target merchandising deal and now an official blog. Maybe SCEE is finally pulling it’s finger out.

We’re gonna be spoilt for choice of people to complain to. I hope the guys running the EU blog have thick skin :)

  5. So Threespeech are changing their site into a EU Playstation Blog or are they making one?

    • No, it’ll be a brand new site, I think.

      • So Threespeech and SCE UK will be working together?

  6. yeey!

  7. We’ll see what sort it content it gets, and once the 1st month has passed how often it’s updated.

For the 1st few weeks at least I’d expect some juicy content, after that like nofi says… we’ll see

  8. It’s only a small one, but FINALLY a step in the right direction!

  9. Wait, it’s not us??

    • I wanted too much money.

  10. Finally! It will be interesting to see if it lives up to expectations, i just hope it doesn’t turn into a SCEE bashing site about the eu store!

    • At first it might turn out like that. ;)

  11. I think it’s impossible to say if this is good news.

Just because Europe is getting the blog it should have had from the start, that doesn’t mean that SCEE will be any use at keeping it up to date or using it to distribute any more information than they already do.

I wish I could be enthusiastic about this but while SCEE is working (or not working, to be more accurate) the way it is I honestly can’t see a European blog being any use at all after the first couple of months.

Hopefully I’m wrong and this is the first step in a complete overhaul of the shoddy way SCEE has operated which will see it become the company that its consumers deserve.

    • It’s good news in that we’re getting what we’ve been asking for (demanding?). It’s bad news that it has taken so long. I’m willing to give SCEE the benefit of the doubt on this as they have the yardstick of the US blog to measure themselves against. Surely they’re also aware of the level of expectation that the EU blog will launch with. Hopefully one of the reasons it has taken so long is because they have been busy putting in a decent information infrastructure for it. It’s entirely possible that they haven’t of course, in which case the EU blog could be an enormous home goal for them.

      • I really hope it turns out as good as it should be but having the US Store as a yardstick isn’t making SCEE do any better there so why should the blogs be different? I just really can’t see SCEE handling this properly after the initial novelty has worn off for them.

Also, I’d really quite like them to sort out the store before they launch a blog which will inevitably get clogged with consumers demanding release parity and (if track record is anything to go by) Sony ignoring them or trotting out the pitiful excuse about localisation. Aren’t SCEE just giving users a more direct way of telling them how shit they are?

Like I said though, I hope it turns out as good as the consumers deserve it to be.

  12. prety good news :)
did sony get back about the psn store poll we did a while back?

  13. “…past two and half years. Your input has really helped PlayStation to grow…”

These two parts of sentences are why I’ll not break out the champagne. The length of time that it has taken SCEE to sort this and that somewhere our input has been taken into account?

I’ll not be holding my breath on this.

  14. seen elsewhere that SCEE have said that this is the day TS ends not the confirmed launch date for the new EU blog.

    • I think it is fairly safe to assume that SCEE will have the new blog ready to roll on that day, otherwise we wouldn’t have been given such a specific date. But you’re right, we don’t know for certain.

  15. That’s great, but aren’t we now part of SCE UK (For those of us in the UK obviously), so surely some of the thing might be hazy, such as dates?
    I don’t know
I mean I don’t know if this change in branding has any effect on us, or if its basically the same as SCEE (which is actucally nicer to type and look at).

    • As I understand it (and I’m happy to be corrected by those who know better) SCE UK are a division of SCEE and hopefully it’ll be a Europe-wide blog. SCEE are also responsible for the Middle East, Africa and Oceania too.

As it seems to be called the EU PlayStation blog, feel free to speculate whether readers in countries that are not part of the EU, like Rev and Pingu in Norway, as well as those in countries like Switzerland and Iceland will be able to read it. :)

  16. No, the guys behind ThreeSpeech will move on. That’s my understanding.
