After quite a few days of Uncharted 2 hype, rumours and news, Naughty Dog are finally talking about what we all already know: Uncharted 2 will feature multiplayer. The details don’t stop there though, as we have now received a press release from SCEE providing more information about the multiplayer modes on offer.

  • Five-Versus-Five Player Matches Competitively
  • Up To Three Player Cooperative Modes

The 5 V 5 competitive play comes in the form of Deathmatch and Plunder (a capture the flag variant). Cooperative play enables up to 3 players multiplayer modes allow up-to-3 players to progress through a variety of environments by working together to accomplish set objectives.

The multiplayer beta will start in the US on June 3rd, and is open to anyone who grabs hold of inFamous, and the final bit of good news is that Naughty Dog apparently haven’t forgotten about beta access for us Europeans, with details to follow… In the mean time take a look at this trailer, we’ll have more news for you as soon as we receive it.

  1. i hope we get beta access through inFamous too as i pre-ordered it this saturday

  2. Yes. This looks good.

  3. to say its only 5v5 it looks good

being able to climb and hide on things up in the air looks good

  4. I wasnt (and still not fully) sure about multiplayer in uncharted. A seperate co-op campaign sounded good but anything else I was worried about the inclusion and how it would affect the single player.

After seeing the trailer, those worries are somewhat gone. Dont let us down Naughty Dog!

    • hmmm… im also not sure about this game having multiplayer. uncharted 1 is still one of the best games on the ps3 and if they make a balls up of the multiplayer the whole game will get slated

  5. Ok, does anyone have any idea why Firefox will not display some videos, but will display others. The video on this page does not show up at all, but I could view it on the US Blog. I use NoScript, Flashblock and Adblock, but allow TSA as well as sites like Youtube, Viddler. So i’m not sure what the problem is.

    • I only have NoScript. It works for me though.

    • 3.06 or 3.1b3 ?

  6. Metal Gear Online style. Only without the Kojima touch.

  7. I think this is going to ruin the game, the storyline and characters were what drew me into loving the first and now they are put into the online scrutiny firing line for no good reason. It was great before and i dont see why the base of the game should change.
There is no need to fill the disc with this rubbish when you could implement more levels, guns, enemies, vehicles and gameplay variations into the game instead.
Also a little note to trophy whores is that there is no doubt that there will be online trophies now requiring 30-40 extra hours play for the platinum to be achieved.

    • Now having said that, dont get me wrong- the game is definatly on my pre-order list.. purely for the single player mode and my confidence in naughty dogs delivery of a great experience.
Im really hoping the authenticity is still there in abundance as with drakes fortune.
The co-op could work well, the competitive online however could just be the worst competitive online game of all time, im totally expecting(from the looks of the video) to be climbing up to gain higher advantage and getting shot in the ass almost every time.
There is little chance of a 3rd person shooter adventure game becoming successful in its longetivity.

      • edit last sentence- “3rd person shooter adventure ‘ONLINE’ game”

    • I agree (mostly). Uncharted was a character driven story, it wasnt a frantic shoot everything that moves game. Mulitplayer deathmatch seems massively tacked on – it just doesnt fit in the uncharted “universe”. Why not do 4 player Co-Op instead?

  8. *Jaw gapes open* That looks.. juicy?

  9. Hmmm..

Why is it that every game released nowadays got to have some form of online component?

Got a feeling we got a new GTA / MGS online here.

But heres to prove me wrong ! ;-)

    • I just said what you’d already said. D’oh!

      • I said it even earlier on.

  10. That looked awesome.

  11. I hope it’ll be good, but it looks like it’s just going to be an added component to charge DLC for.

  12. I have a funny feeling that this might go the way of MGO. Hide behind a wall, pop out for headshot, return to cover. Rinse and repeat.

I can see where people are coming from relating to trophies. There’s bound to be trophies for the online part, and if the online part sucks then it’s going to be impossible or very tedious to platinum the game. Same with most games nowadays.

I hope that the inclusion of this hasn’t meant skimping on certain parts of the single player.

  13. Woah, looks awesome. I hope the single player will be at least as good as the first game’s single player though.

  14. Cool, looks like they won’t edit out a lot of the features for the online gaes just like most games do. They lose the cover mechanic or they lose the free-form climbing, they are making it good.

I was also going to just pick inFamous when it came out, but now I have to pre-order it to make sure that I get it, for the key. My frienc who owns a 360 couldn’t pick-up crackdown when it came out. He was very sad until Halot 3 came out. He then stayed home for 2 days and beat the game within a 12 hour time period.

  15. You missed out one of the best features!
You can save up to 10 matches on your HDD and go back and place cameras and edit them into short films for later viewing!
It was the only good feature in Driv3r and will make this 10x funner! (Well, for me anyway. I love filmmaking!)
