Well, perhaps there’s still one surprise left up Sony’s sleeves for tomorrow, as apparently the PlayStation Network will be undergoing a few hours of downtime during the Sony Gamescom press conference.  Sony are calling it “maintenance”, we’re calling it “new firmware”.  Remember that 2.90 is next on the roadmap, so whilst this might not be the fabled “3.0″ update, hopefully it will be something worthy of your time.

“The PlayStation®Network will be taken offline for maintenance on August 18, 2009 from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM PST.  We apologize for any inconvenience,” says the official customer service site, explaining that during this time gamers will not “be able to access the PlayStation®Store”, “play online games” and might well “see a maintenance page when attempting to access the PlayStation Network”.
