Just had to sit this one out until the embargo was up, but here’s details on the PS3 Downloadable Content and the multi-format Game Of The Year editions of Fallout 3.

PlayStation 3 Downloadable Content

Today Bethesda released an update for the PS3 version of Fallout 3 that addresses a number of issues, includes some optimisations, and adds trophy support for the DLC. The first DLC for PS3, “Broken Steel”, will be available next Thursday, September 24th. That will be followed by the release of “Operation: Anchorage” and “The Pitt” on October 1st, and “Point Lookout” and “Mothership Zeta” on October 8th.

Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition

Bethesda have also let us know that the Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Games For Windows) will be available at retail on Friday, October 16th. The Game of the Year edition includes the critically-acclaimed game as well as all five downloadable content packs. The discs will include the title updates you will need to play the DLC. (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions will retail at £39.99 / €59.99 and the Games for Windows version will be available for £29.99 / €49.99.)

  1. Good to hear Bethseda are increasingly warming to the PS3.

  2. FINALLY…jeez

  3. I really regret selling fallout now, oh well i’ll just get the GOTY edition.

    • I sold mine a few months back so I could get the GOTY. I tell ya i’ve been needing a fix of fallout for so long.

  4. Awesome news, but I don’t know whether to get all the DLC separately or just wait a bit longer for the GOTY edition. Decisions, decisions.

    • well…i have the same problem. Desperate to play the DLC but do I want to pay for them individually or buy the complete game. To be honest I dont think I can wait a whole month :P

      • I lost my save game so I had to start again, so the extra few weeks will give me a chance to complete the main game again. Plus, I’ve bought quite a few new games recently so there’s plenty to keep me occupied in the meantime.

    • As I’ve said before, make the decision when you see how much the DLC is. With the GotY available to preorder for £30 from various places, if the DLC is £6 apiece, or more, it’ll be worth picking up the GotY edition and selling your standard copy for whatever you can get for it.

      • True, but it’s not just about price – if the GOTY Edition takes up less space on my hard drive (which it presumably will) then I’ll be getting it even if it’s a bit more expensive than buying the DLC individually.

      • But I bought 2 £20 PSN cards for £32, so its better than buying th game again, right?

And I get it straight away.

      • One such place is GAME. Plus you can get some reward points too.

  5. I think I’ll get the GOTY edition of this. I gave it a miss the first time around, but people seem to think it’s a good game.

    • it is a good game, really it is.

    • Hope you don’t have any plans for the next few months after you get it then.

  6. There’s no indication of how much these DLC’s will cost individually is there? Would be nice if they had some sort of discounted pack with all of them for those who already have the game (and haven’t sold it).

    • agreed, but again then you would have to wait

      • I’m OK with that. I just finished the game not too long ago, so I’m still recovering from acute Fallout burnout. With Uncharted 2 and COD Modern Warfare 2 coming soon I can wait a bit.

  7. With fallout down to £15 @ the moment I expect fallout GOTY won’t linger at £40 for long

  8. any idea what the optimisations are that are mentioned here? is there actually any noticeable improvements? going to have to play this tonight if theres a new update…and also going to struggle with download vs goty – had oblivion goty and nice to have everything on one disk

  9. Wicked news, looking forward to all these DLC packs.

  10. YES!!! finally i’ve been waiting forever

  11. Wow great news I have been waiting for this pack since ever
    great

  12. Sounds like a good Christmas present to myself :)

  13. Hang on.. isnt LBP Game of the Year? Wassgoinon?

    • So is Fable 2 and Gears of War 2. Apparently.

    • I think that it doesn’t matter which magazine, website, retailer calls something their Game of The Year, that the publisher will then release a GoTY edition.

With so many print and online magazines around there’ll be quite a few ‘games of the year’.

I guess it will say on the back of the box whose particular opinion they used to claim the accolade…

  14. is there any gaurantee that the original game save will work with the GOTY version?

  15. YES!!! Can’t wait, been waiting a long time for this.

Bring on thursday! Bought PSN cards for this.

    • Also, do you know the price?

      • it will most likely be £7.99 or something like that
