A press release just coming through the email has alerted us to the fact that Braid, the much-loved time-meddling platformer, is coming to the PSN. I know, we told you that before. Well, the extra news is that it has been dated for November 12th. That’s really quite soon.
In order to maintain tradition HotHead Games have only confirmed the date for North America, stating “European version to be announced shortly thereafter” so who knows exactly when European PS3 owners will get to enjoy the sublime stylings and fantastic storyline in Braid? We only hope that it’s sooner rather than later.
I’m currently downloading the assets pack so I’ll update this post with images as and when I have them.
Take a look at the images below and bear in mind that still images don’t do this game’s atmosphere any justice at all. It’s beautiful.

If this is one of those occasions where there is ‘no plans’ for Europe, or the developer/publisher takes ages to submit it to SCEE, then I’m upping sticks and moving Stateside

no, the press release definitely states that it will be announced for Europe shortly after the US release.
I think I’d still move though.

I’d still be on TSA, I’ll be their US correspondent.
Wonder if TSA’s expenses will stretch to mortgage interest payments, kitting out second homes and duckhouses?

Well the HotHeadGames site says that “a launch date for Europe and Asia should be just around the corner”. It depends on their definition of ‘just around the corner’, but i’d think it would be before the end of the year, if not month.

yeah but europe is like that island in lost, time works differently here, soon could mean months,i recall the uncharted 1 space was coming to the eu home “soon” about six months ago, and just around the corner could mean anything.

Trine, Astro Tripper, Numblast, Inferno Pool, Topatoi, Outrun Online, Dark Mist, GTI Club+, Mahjong Tales, Savage Moon, CellFactor: Psychokinetic Wars, Crystal Defenders and Battle Tanks

Funny, but no (besides, some of them are quite good). They all hit the UK store before the US store, some significantly well before (a couple never showed up on the US PSN). EU users just seem to have developed this siege mentality that they’re always last to get everything on the PSN, when it isn’t necessarily the case.

Great news. Hopefully we’ll get it this month too. It really is a great little puzzler.

there’s a free PC demo, its worth a look – but its far better when you don’t have to use the WASD keys

From the screenshots I dont see the appeal – the graphics look like they are taken from a mid 90s platformer, some Mario rip off. The picture in the bottom left for example – it’s all square blocks and some of the patterns are repeated. Yer know what it looks like? It is supposed to resemble old platformers…there is a level based on donkey kong..kinda. If you only use screenshots to see the appeal in this game you will miss out.. it is awesome

Mid 90s platformers were infinitely better than anything I’ve played in HD

rick dangerous, there’s a name that brings back memories
i remember having that on a cartridge for the c64 once, i think it was the 64 anyway, either that or the amstrad cpc.

The movement of the character is very RD like (especially when climbing) and the gameplay is also very trial and error based. Fortunately in Braid, you have the time rewind function to stop you from tearing your hair out ala Rick Dangerous…

Ah, Rick Dangerous.. Great game, but worst ending ever. Finish the last level and it just says the words “Game Over”. Worst. Ending. Ever.

do i have to remind people the xbox version came out worldwide.
once again it’ll only be when scee are involved that it doesn’t get a same day release.
frakking useless excuse for a company.

So does it bring anything new to the old skool platform genre? For example, the likes of Gravity Crash is shaping up superbly well (maintaining old skool roots but bringing some serious freshness to many aspsects of the game). However, I’ve just watched some YouTube footage but can’t see this being any more fun than a simple DS game. Then again, perhaps that’s what it’s exactly supposed to be. Very simple, fun, Mario-like, etc.
Please inform!

it is initially quite simple platformy mechanic but there is time-manipulation in there too. Basically one of the trigger buttons rewinds time. There is quite a lot of puzzling around this mechanic that fleshes it out into more than just a “jumping game”.
It really is a lovely gaming experience, the demos don’t even do it justice. Probably the best storyline in years too.

Go look up X-Pilot. Power ups, level designer and 32 players games across the world via the internet. In 1990. The internet barely existed in 1990 so its marvel X-pilot worked so well.
