Michael Pachter beware, a challenger has risen and is gazing at his balls (crystals ones, of course) to forsee the future. Let us welcome Cowen Group analyst Doug Creutz who has been predicting the sales of games in the United States for October. Doug thinks that overall sales will be down compared to last year due to the lack of big releases and that PS3 hero Nathan Drake sitting at the top of the charts.

Good news too for Borderlands which he predicts to be on track with sales around the 500,000 mark but bad news for DJ Hero which limps in with sales of just 200,000 in the US. According to VGCharts, DJ Hero has only sold 290,000 copies worldwide on all formats (PS3, Xbox, Wii, PS2), by comparison Guitar Hero 3 has sold over 15 million units, 1.4 million units in it’s first month of sales.

With the recent news that Beatles Rockband is only likely to break even and Guitar Hero 5 sales well down the death knell may be sounding for rhythm action games.

  1. Well I won’t be helping matters then as far as DJ Hero is concerned, as I’ve just spent a fair bit on a Guitar Hero band bundle!! ;)

  2. It’s too damn expensive.

  3. Dj hero is £100 for a bit of plastic! what did they expect?!
if you go with a second hand guiter being £15 (GAME) and the game itself £20, then id expect the price of the dj hero bundle to fall to about £40, which i would pay, but this will never happen.

    • If they sold it at £40 it’d probably be selling it at a significant loss.

  4. I played this at my mates house. I personally think its an ok game but the price tag is too high in my opinion.

  5. Had a go of DJ hero on saturday at HMV, great game but not great enough for that price… take it done to say £60 and Im in…

  6. (sorry, meant ‘down’)

  7. I think the market for rhythm action games is saturated, they need to stop releasing games every 4 months and focus on getting new things into each game rather than a new money-spinning peripheral.

    • I totally agree with that. I have Rock Band (the first one) and over time have picked up two guitars and drums, all from ebay or friends. With the singstar mic trick I now have a full band and it cost me less than £60! Thanks to all the great song DLC, this game has lasted ages without ever getting tired.

      • Cool, rock band note charts easily comprehendable cos i have huge doubts and i was thinking of buying

    • it is a rip of

    • I love the whole GH/Rockband games, but i still believe that ALL these games should just be DLC! Im getting Rockband at some point this year as the DLC list is missive, i have GH:WT and GHIII, but getting GH5 just seems to pricey, i would much rather just get the songs i want from the disk as DLC!

  8. Ha Ha, take that Kotick

    • Pow, right in the kisser!

  9. Just wait… Tony Hawk’s Ride will be the final nail in activisons plastic peripheral coffin.
Right now I bet activisons analysts are trying to figure out how many COD’s they have to make in order to make up the loses.

    • HAHA – Yea, they are probably building a GOTY version to put up for sale ASAP to further the re-coop in looses

  10. LOL, they’re so owned, as a matter of fact guitar/band/dj hero and rock band are owned by the same company and every time they release a rock band title, guitar hero sales go tumbling down!!!! trophies are usless unless you can like fc expert and stuff.

    • Um no they’re not. The ‘Hero’ franchise is done by various Activision developers, whereas Rock Band is done by Harmonix who are owned by MTV and is published by EA. Completely different.

  11. guess dj hero is just one music game too far.

  12. I agree DJ Hero is a bit pricey, but you are also paying for the 90 odd licensed songs which must have cost a fair few quid in royalties.  It would be interesting to see the price split between the software and the hardware.

    • According to some reports the royaltyies for all the tracks came to $1 per copy of DJ Hero sold. Thats $1 in total – not $1 per track.
