SuperAnnuation does it again, digging out the juiciest snippets of information from the web, and once again good old LinkedIn proves to be the leak. So, it looks like Microsoft are working on either a brand new dashboard or at least some new tweaks to the current one, going off the above link which states that an animator has been working on the NXE (do we still call it that) for a couple of months.
I’m assuming that when Natal arrives the current dashboard will need some serious tweaks so that gesturing will get you to wherever you want to go rather quickly, but I’m not entirely sure why there’s an animator onboard, albeit one with serious Flash experience. Perhaps the interface design will be more ‘alive’ with lots of flipping and zooming as you frantically wave your arms about looking for Rez HD.

Its Microsoft. He needs that change. I think for more control with the “hacked” ones.

Seriously, when are SONY gonna redesign the XMB?
It NEEDS to be more active and alive, and far more seamless.

Wanted "Trophy Hunter" but was too late.

While I agree it needs to be more dynamic, I sure hope they don’t turn it to the mess, the NXE for Xbox is. NXE dashboard are so cluttered. bulky and slow to navigate. They fill it up with adds and shortcuts for the same thing three-four times.
I hope they redesign it to be more simple and with a more logic menu system.

I much prefer Sony’s XMB than Microsoft’s, but the XMB should be more dynamic.

I love the XMB as it is. It’s slim, simple and does exactly what it should do. I’d love to see the XMB on some other systems like Netbooks or Cellphones. I think the new Sony Cellphones support XMB but only when they are connected to a PS3.

@KeRaSh – I heard that the instant-on feature for sony vaio laptops have been redesigned to be almost the same as the XMB, even with a store i think, i remember hearing that it is available on the vaio P series

No! I love the XMB!
While I think it could be less.. boring, I find it easy to use and just a.. joy to use

My presumption is that the animator will provide smooth interactive transitions to make the gestures seem as smooth and precise as possible…….if it was as accurate as they say they wouldn’t need an animator.

Um… well that’s based on your theory of what they’re doing. It could be accurate and the animator is for something else?

That’s entirely possible, it could be for backgrounds or icons for example. I was just referring to motion control of the dash.

I still maintain it won’t be accurate enough for use in ‘normal’ gaming though

No idea, maybe it will maybe it won’t. I want it, but I don’t want it to control my “normal” games really. I’d like it as some form of secondary input. Hell if the voice recognition is any good I’ll be happy.

for a company that makes the worlds biggest, in more ways than one, os you’d think they’d have some idea about what make a decent easy to use interface, but on the evidence of the nxe they haven’t got a clue, the old blades system was easier to use.
got knows what kind of mess they’d create with natal.

I don’t know why people hate on the dashboard so much, I actually really like the design. I think I’m in the minority, but for me it works fine and I prefer it over the XMB. It does need to have the Avatar Store properly integrated though, it’s weird that it’s its own sub-section.

I didn’t like the dashboard on 360, prefer PS3 Motorstorm Arctic Edge Dynamic Theme (It almost makes you feel christmassy
)

Now that’s just being petty.
Who cares about a theme as long as the features actually work.
I tried previewing a movie on ps3 and it’s forever buffering, whereas xbox 360 it just works, a bit like every other feature on the ps3 (bar the blueray) and I used to be a big ps3 fan before i got the xbox 360 as well.
You can really tell the difference between the features. If PS3’s features actually worked properly and they didn’t plaster playstation store icons everywhere I have no doubt that it would be a superior system.

I have never had problems with videos on the PS3.

Oh and I forgot to mention, I think Microsoft has more ads than Sony, and I don’t really understand what features don’t work on the PS3?

I prefer the very first 360 dashboard to the new one.

The 360 dashboard beats the xmb and it’s dynamic themes by a mile. Atleast microsoft come out with somthing new. Sony need to start from scratch. This ain’t no fanboy comment because i own both.

Sony not changing their XMB while Microsoft changes their dashboard just shows that Sony doesn’t need to change something that doesn’t need remodeling. The PS3 just looks sophisticated and formal like that compared to the cartoony looking NXE.

I think the PS3 XMB is fine it’s simple and you can select play movie, play game, go to store, or look at friends (status, message, etc.). That is all an XMB is for, right?
