Never shy about coming out with bold statements, Sony’s latest comment in relation to Apple’s new iPad device is a real humdinger. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal in the wake of the “giant iPod’s” unveiling, John Koller, Sony’s Director of hardware, not only seems buoyant about the prospect of a new challenger entering the market, he reckons the big winner after the dust settles will be Sony itself. Koller states:

“Apple’s entrance into the portable gaming space has been a net positive for Sony. When people want a deeper, richer console, they start playing on a PSP.”

Koller is referring – in part at least – to the increase in sales of the PSP since the iPhone entered the gaming arena back in 2007. And here was us thinking it was because Sony actually started putting out quality games for the handheld device.
