As we predicted reports are emerging this morning that LittleBigPlanet 2 will be released this year, and VG247 appear to have insider information from a ‘source’ claiming a 2010 release of a certain “LBP2″.

There isn’t a great deal of information to back up this rumour yet, but we do have a few theories of our own. The first clue for us came when Media Molecule was purchased by Sony, on the Official Blog Michael Denny, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Studios said “Media Molecule have exciting projects in the pipeline and we’re looking forward to sharing these with you in the not too distant future.”

The next theory is more common sense than a clue. It stands to reason that Sony would want to have some amazing launch games to release alongside their new motion controller and what game is more unique than LittleBigPlanet?

How the motion controller would actually fit into this game is shown below in an old tech demo from Japan, as you can see from the video the controller is used to move objects and there is no doubt that the new game would also include this feature as well as lots more innovative ideas.

With Sony showing the controller off at GDC, it may not be too long before we find out and while this is all rumour, it is a good one and we think it is one that will probably become true.

  1. They already showed up a tech demo showing LBP working with the wand at TGS.

  2. I was so right :D

  3. LBP2 + Arc bundle would make sense. And I bet LBP2 will support 3DTV too.

  4. LBP2 – WOW

I cant take all this greatness coming through – This Monday has been all kinds of awesome so far ;o)

    • More good news and i haven’t even fnished waking up yet :)

  5. LBP2 using Arc and 3D Tech..can’t wait!

  6. Good to hear, glad the college finally got public wifi, tsa is the only thing that’s keeping me alive through *shudder* double law…
Buy anyway, never played lbp myself, but my sister is never off it. I’m sure she will be glad to hear this :)

  7. Hopefully it supports backwards compatibility for the 2,000,000+ levels already in existence for LBP, hopefully the creation tools are easier to create something meaningful, because for all LBP’s supposed genius it was damn hard to do anything better than crap. MNR leads the way there.

    • I remember an article where MM stated that a sequel would not be made to avoid dividing the LBP community… I guess this a downside of the create-share-play concept…
I’d love a new LBP adventure though! :D

    • MNR’s creation tools are sublime but the restriction of building a race is key to its success. LBP let you build worlds, as such. Race tracks, puzzles, platform levels, gizmos. Bloody anything, let’s be honest. Hell, I played a community level where my ship was a car, which flew, which was a ship, etc…. Was nothing short of incredible. I’m of the mind that I can’t see how they can make creation easier (pre-Arc/Wand). However, maybe all that’s about to change.

      • Good point… but you really have to be so talented to do anything above a dodgy platform in LBP – I hope they can find a way to make it more accessible

  8. add the option for full 3d worlds and i’m sold.

  9. I wonder if they would make the motion control a necessity. If they do it could alienate some people. If they don’t, I can’t see many reasons for buying this game.

    • Nope… there’s 30m+ PS3′s in the wild there is zero chance of motion becoming compulsory, there will however be motion specific levels

      • That presents a problem in itself though. If I buy a game for £40 I want to be able to use all the content in the game. If I can’t play/ access say a quarter of the levels because I haven’t bought a motion control I am going to feel ripped off.

    • i would expect motion control would help with the creation but i can’t see it becoming mandatory for gameplay.

  10. It would explain why MM hasn’t released so many level packs, even though everybody has been screaming for them.
