Last nights launch event at HMV Oxford Street (London) has been declared as the biggest launch ever with an estimated 2,000 Final Fantasy fanatics at the event. Producer Yoshinori Kitase was on hand to sign games with some fans queuing for over 17 hours to get his signature. Head of Games for HMV, Tim Ellis, said:

“Today’s Final Fantasy XIII signing at HMV’s flagship store on Oxford Street was the biggest game launch the store has ever seen. With thousands of fans queuing up round the block it even beats our stores previous best game launch event which was for World of Warcraft. ”

“They say games are the new rock and roll, and this incredible turnout certainly proves the point. We could organise album launches and DVD signings by major stars but I’m sure none would come close to attracting the size of crowd and enthusiastic response that we saw last night.”

I went up to HMV last night and can confirm it was jam packed; Oxford street was littered with cosplayers which was rather freaky. Quite how the bloke below got away with running up and down Oxford Street with a sword bigger than him I’m not sure, I’ve been arrested by the Metropolitan police just because the straw in my McDonalds milkshake is a bit pointy.
