Hideo Kojima has revealed that those in the West who purchase Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will be receiving the uncut version.
Speaking via Twitter, the developer revealed that the Japanese version had to have a scene removed in order to keep it from getting the equivalent of an 18 rating in the country. This has lead to disappointment on Kojima’s part though he explains that this was necessary as the PSP is supported by a younger audience in Japan, so during production the staff tried to avoid including ‘grotesque’ scenes.
Furthermore, Kojima revealed that they even considered making the game so that it could be approved for the under 15 rating, however since there is “a certain scene”, a “standard element” that’s “absolutely necessary for MGS,” this was just not possible.
Perhaps understandably the developer revealed that he wasn’t very happy about the cuts to the game in his home country saying,
There’s tolerance for fantasy games, but for games where you show war or real violence between people, you apparently can’t complain about anything. With this, it seems impossible to communicate something through games.
So there we go, another developer speaks his mind. So what are your thoughts on this? Or are you just happy that here is the west we will receive the whole game?
