When we were dreaming up our Top 100 Games of 2010 feature last year, Frontier Developments’ The Outsider made the list based on pure, blind optimism. We did admit, however, that the game was quite likely a complete figment of our overactive imagination. Not so, as according to Eurogamer, not only is the speculative game still in development, the team are “working hard on it.”
Frontier boss David Braben reveals:
“It’s very exciting and we’re still working hard on it. I’m not talking about it yet but watch this space.”
The Outsider is a bold endeavour; a game whose story will twist and change according to the player’s choices. Kind of like Heavy Rain with an even broader sense of causality. Set in the murky espionage world, a CIA operative is framed for a crime he didn’t commit and goes out on the lam. From there, anything can happen. Literally.
With such an innovative design hook, this could be one to watch. Or it could just stay in Development Hell for another few years. We’ll have to wait and see.
