Xbox Slim: Power Brick Intact

Microsoft’s MicroOprah act might have secured a few column inches, but it also means we get to have a good look at the machine before us mortals get our chance to own one next month.  Engadget’s unboxing video is below – you’ll notice there’s still an external power brick and, for some reason, no HDMI cable, only a composite one.

Bonkers.

  1. I quite like the look of it Might acquire for a bit of Halo & Alan Wake.

  2. Touch buttons, piano black, built in wifi, no hdmi cable… its a PS3 from a few years back!

Seriously though, looks sweet. I want one!

    • Looks awful though!

      • is that meant to be a slim ? It’s hurting my eyes.

      • I think it looks good. Reminds me of one of those Alienware PC’s.

      • The horrible wonky line in the middle is just awful :P

    • They haven’t had HDMI for ages

  3. Well that sounds a hell of a lot quieter than my current console when it has a game installed. Hopefully this’ll remove the primary need to install games, which is just a small pain.

The power brick being external is annoying, but not the end of the world. Certainly glad that it’s lighter, the old one weighs about the same as the rest of the console (this may be a slight exageration).

As for the HDD, that’s an odd place to put it, but it does make the look more sleek than at present. I’m secretly praying it goes user upgradable without shelling out a bomb for their ones, but it’s really not gonna happen.

  4. Wonder if this is best sat horizontally due to the big vent at the bottom.
Like toutski said though, definately similar to an old fat PS3.

    • If it’s sat horizontal, is that other vent right at the top? Surely when the console is jsut sat there dust will fall straight in?

      • They sure have thought of everything.

      • Insects might get stuck in the vents!
        That would be funny.

  5. There is no hdmi in the current elites there hasn’t been for a while now, not since the new boxes

    • You’re right, I bought an arcade in Nov last year and no HDMI.

  6. Awww they’ve taken the jet plane engine out :-)

  7. Ugly and unneeded.

  8. I have few questions: is it HDMI 1.3? is the hdd 2.5″? is the ethernet 1Gbps?

    • I also wanna know what HDMI version it is. 1.4 and i’m sold.

  9. Quite a bit quieter but that DVD drive still makes a fair old racket. I like how it looks but they’ve taken quite a bit from the old PS3. Piano black still looks great.

For me, the reliability would be everything. Fingers crossed they’ve finally sorted that out.

  10. Any price for Europe? (Preferably in €).

Is it cheaper? I’d assume it would be, I heard $299, whats the price of the PS3 in $?
