What happens when a key composer of an accalimed game franchise ups and leaves? A man whose dulcet and signature melodies have become synomymous with one of the scariest game series of all time? Why, you hire another renowned musician well-respected in the “chilling” community.
Check out the new Silent Hill trailer below featuring the different (yet eerily familiar) strains of Dexter’s own Daniel Licht. Sure, it may not be the mandolin moodiness of previous Silent Hill sound-man extraordinaire Akira Yamaoka (now of Grasshopper Manufacture after leaving Konami in 2009), but we think the producers of the game have found a fitting replacement in Licht – a composer known for his haunting dirges on the popular serial-killer-starring TV show.
Not much is actually known about Silent Hill 8 (or, if we’re to go by the title card, simply now Silent Hill) other than the fact that it is being made by the Czech Republic’s Vatra Games. From what’s on display here, we’re hoping a Move support announcement is only a matter of time, the mechanic of using a torch to shed some light on the dark corners of the infamous and doomed town a feature that worked exceptionally well in Wii outing Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. We reckon darting the light source around an unknown room could really add an extra element of fear here.
