worth finding and watching anything of Cung Le’s mate, most interesting fighter of the bunch for me.
a fair few old men, way past their prime in this roster though tbh.

Decent roster. Looking forward to having a blast as Jacare!
Does anyone know if the Fight Night feature of fights being able to take place within 2 weight classes is implemented here? I want to do a Ken vs Frank grudge match if I get hold of this!

I wonder why ea are bothering with this game. Ufc is supposedly as good as an mma can be, but just hasn’t had the sales. It’s a niche market game and almost certain to make a loss. I played the demo and quite enjoyed it (ufc 2010) but wouldn’t buy it as i have no interest in mma.
The Mysterious Phantom Bear
They are bothering because UFC Undisputed 2009 made a massive profit and they want in.
The only thing is, that MMA as a sport is thought of by the majority of casual observers as another three letter acronym. That being, U.F.C.
EA is relying on the MMA hardcore to pick this game up as the roster is very interesting to those with a long time interest in MMA. Maybe they’re hoping for the casual gamer to pick it up as it has the EA Sports banner. Unfortunately for EA, I can’t see the sales being that great because for once they don’t have access to the dominant license in the sport they’re trying to replicate.

They’re not trying to replicate UFC. MMA fighting is absolutely huge outside the world of UFC. I agree, not as many people will be familiar with it, but this is EA’s chance to enlighten the world.

Because UFC sucked so hard. The visuals, controls and overall gameplay of UFC was unbelievably stale. And if anybody can see a difference between ’09 and ’10 then they need a pat on the back. EA’s MMA actually looks like it might be quite good. MMA is much more interesting than UFC anyway, because it’s not completely run by a bunch of patriotic yanks screaming at each other. From what i’ve seen so far, they’ve taken a page out of Fight Night’s book, and made something not only pretty to look at, but a game that controls much better than UFC did, which isn’t hard really. If it required you to put the controller behind your head and press the buttons wearing mittens soaked in acid and full of wasps, it would still be more enjoyable than UFC.

Read my post again.
I said EA wanted to replicate the success of the UFC game. EA turned down Dana White when he asked them about the possibility of creating a UFC game a few years back, EA stating that MMA “wasn’t a sport”.
Now the UFC game was a success, they want in.
The roster is great for hardcore fans of the sport but do you really think that this will land with the casual audience? I don’t.
Ask 100 sports fans if they’ve heard of Brock Lesnar or Fedor Emelianenko and weight for your answer. Ask 100 gamers the same question. Again, similar answer.
In my eyes, this game will not outperform the UFC brand as to most people the UFC is MMA.
I will be buying it. The majority of my friends will not.

I sincerely hope though that they sort out the slidey feet, arcadey feel and ridiculous camera shake that was evident at E3. If it’s good It’ll sit nicely alongside UFC 2010 in my collection.
The competition can only be a good thing if it drives both developers to better their respective franchises.
