LucasArts has confirmed that cutbacks have been made at its internal studios today. Although they have yet to confirm a number, a former member of staff has suggested that the cuts were harsh – with an estimation of around 60 developers, as well as 25 from external production and QA. All this comes less than a week after Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II was said to have “gone gold.”
LucasArts had the following to say;
“LucasArts is reorganizing its teams to better address the needs of the internal studio. Unfortunately, this means adjusting staffing.
LucasArts continues to be committed to creating a first-class internal studio – and to fostering relationships with trusted external partners – in order to deliver quality games that amaze and inspire fans.”

It’s the Alan Partridge school of Streamlining:
“Who was that man that was boring me”
“Peter? He just revamped news and current affairs”
“Yes, but he’s finished revamping now, give him a painting of a spitfire and let him go”

Damn, always a shame to see jobs being lost – especially in a studio I’m interested to see succeed (more Star Wars please!).

a return to their old form for star wars games please xwing vs Tie Fighter and Dark Forces 2 :Jedi Knight were the last that really blew me away (I’m not counting KOTOR though, which was great, as it was developed externally)

I’m not really surprised, they don’t seem to release games anywhere near as frequently as other studios or as many!
